This is a simple plugin I made a long time ago for my personal use. I just found the source code while going through some old stuff on my computer, so I thought I'd clean up the code a bit and release the plugin.

I realize that there are other plugins that feature similar functionality but I wrote my own because I wanted to be sure its coded optimally, as there are a few careless ways in which these functions can be improperly used (the point of this after all is to conserve battery life).

It does the following when the Hold switch is enabled:
* Switches off the LCD backlight.
* Switches off the actual LCD screen.
(This is important because the backlight and actual screen are two different things. You can have an image being displayed on the screen while the backlight is switched off, such that you can see the image if you use a flashlight. You can also have the screen switched off while the backlight still illuminates the powered off screen.)
* Underclocks the CPU to 61MHz
(Sony has changed the clock speed functions such that only certain combinations of speeds work correctly. Simply trying to underclock to arbitary values will result in the CPU simply running at the stock speed. I have verified that Hold+ successfully underclocks to 61MHz.)
* The original screen brightness and clock speed are restored when the Hold switch is released.

Installation:
You can install it in the seplugins folder, and make an entry in VSH.txt. Thus it will be active in the XMB. Its also possible to use it in games by adding it to GAME.txt, but some games may crash etc., if the CPU is underclocked to such a low value.

Optionally, its also possible to install it in your PSP's flash0 so that it will work without a memory card. For this you can use FreePlay's "NewBTCFNedit" and enable it for VSH mode in the all the PSPBT?NF.bin files.

This is great, I've been using your old plugin for a long time now, and so far is good but there is something that bothers me, when I release the hold button my psp takes a lot of time to shut off, also it cannot go into sleep mode after using it.
Hope this will get fixed with this new one, BTW I'm running 3.71M33-4 on both my phat and slim, and the same thing happens on both, I have to press the power button for like 10 secs to shut them off

I'm thinking this is because of the underclocking thingy, so if you're willing and have the time, could please you make one that only shuts off the screen when you press hold (on a side note the underclocking makes my .wma files lagg at the begining of every song).

I never made a previous version. That was by someone else. It was also named hold.prx.

I was using the same hold.prx made by someone else for a while and I encountered the same problems with sleep mode etc., so thats why I made my own.


For the WMA lag, it'll just have to be underclocked to a higher speed instead of 61MHz. You can hex edit the value in the PRX, or I'll compile a new one. Note that the value in the PRX will be 60, the PSP just settles at 61 after underclocking.

Disable all enable all the plugins again in recovery. When you add a new plugin, stuff gets messed up.

I've updated the first post with offsets for changing the clock speed. If you don't want to underclock just edit them back to 222 and 111. You can first try values more than 61 to see when it plays back smoothly.

Put the hold.prx in the seplugins folder.
Then there should be a file called VSH.txt in the seplugins folder, if not create one.

Add the following line to VSH.txt
ms0:/seplugins/hold.prx

Then just enable the plugin in recovery mode.

Yeah, I don't understand what the point of this is...?

Its to be used while listening to music or something. You don't need 222Mhz for that.

I'll try to remember to test this later, too bad it doesn't clock lower then the old hold.prx

Clocking it anything less that 60Mhz caused some lag in 128kbit Atrac3Plus songs when the next song starts. 64kbit songs were good all the way down to 30MHz.

Nice plugin Torch, this will be very useful.Thanks for the release.
One nice addition to this would be the function that turns the LEDs off like LEDControl does.Thats very handy when listening to music while trying to sleep. Especially when using the PSP Radio, the WiFi light's constant blinking gets annoying.

Thats what I did initially. But it randomly stopped functioning when returning to the XMB, regardless of the No-UMD mode used in the previous game. Adding it to everything fixed it.

Well, at least that explains it. For playing MP3's you could clock the system much lower via Music.prx on older firmwares and was hoping this would get close to that.
