Default [RELEASE] Gnextop Beta 4

Gnextop Beta 4
From BlazeByte.org, the creators of pspWxp, pspWvista and PSPTunes, comes Gnextop Beta 4. Head developer BigBondFan and the rest of the BlazeByte.org development team is proud to present to you Gnextop Beta 4.

What is Gnextop?

Coded in HTML and JavaScript, Gnextop is a portal that lets you edit documents, browse the web and talk to friends, all at the same time! It is currently at Beta 4 (Version 0.4), and it is on schedule to be released in the second/third quarter of this year.

Gnextop combines features of Linux's Gnome and KDE, to make a friendly yet powerful interface. If you don't like the look of the interface, it's easily changed!

Here's some fun facts you might want to know about Gnextop:

The Gnextop project was initiated on Friday 7 September 2007. During it's one year of construction, developers have written 7725 lines of code, yet it's only 1.5 MB. There have been 3 public releases, with an estimated 10,000 downloads!

Features

File storage
When you save a file, it is stored on the 'virtual disk'. Files you save will be available when you login at a later date. The File Browser allows you to browse and open files.

Text editor
Make notes, write a document - Gnextop's Text editor allows you to store your documents on the PSP so you can open them another time. Type quicker with Gnextop's QWERTY keyboard.

Instant Messenger
Connect to MSN, Yahoo!, AIM and many other protocols using Gnextop's Instant Messenger.

Web browser
You can browse the internet inside Gnextop using the web browser.

Maps
Lost? The Gnextop Maps application allows you to search for a location and bring up a map of the area, that's right, Google Maps on your PSP, and you don't even need custom firmware.

Contacts
Keep track of all your contacts, phone numbers and email addresses using the contacts application.

Calendar
Never miss a meeting with the calendar! With Gnextop it's easy to schedule meetings, holidays and other events.

Image Organizer
Organize your images, add titles, view a slideshow.

Weather
Check the weather forecast for anywhere in the world!

Calculator
A device that always comes in handy, Gnextop's calculator is quick and easy to use.

Plus all the features of Beta 3! (Click here to see the Beta 3 release thread)

Find out more here.

And please believe me, the description above is a extreme understatement, this portal is absolutely amazing. I know you're like "Screw this, not worth my time" as soon as I said "portal", but you need to try this. I promise you this is better than a lot of homebrew out there.

I'm going to try this out right now, to be honest.

Okay, first thing that is annoying me is navigation. Point the cursor just a little bit to the right side of the screen makes the screen move to the left and display a black empty space. The keyboard is also hard to navigate and I would prefer to use Sony's OSK keyboard or Danzeff's keyboard. It would also be nice if you could display the characters in CAPS when you press the CAPS or SHIFT buttons because it gets confusing when typing your password, for example, because you can't see whether something is in CAPS or not. As a result I can't login to my account because I cannot figure out if the letters were mixed up in terms of their cases.

I will keep trying because I really want to see what Gnextop can do, though.

EDIT: Spelled "account" as "a-c-o-u-n-t" which apparently makes it look like I said a bad word.

Nope, currently no plans of YouTube support, it's kinda impossible with the RAM limitations in the browser.

And to lord pip, windows can't be moved, although there is a code to allow that in JavaScript, it's too laggy and useless on PSP. However, Gnextop lets you have up to 3 applications running at once.

Default This is pretty damn awesome.

When I first read the subject of that whole "virtual disk" thing, I was thinking, "...Get the f out of here," because I thought there was finally a way to save something on the memory stick but still be able to browse the pages, since the PSP web browser can't save and browse at the same time. This is handy when I am away and don't feel like hauling my laptop with me, so I use the mobile version of BitTorrent but when it comes time to save I feel like I'm waiting forever. Sorry for ranting, all in all, the minimize thing is just flat out awesome if I say so myself. I think you did a great job... to be honest.

I prefer pspkvm Opera. I think you can set it to autostart opera, and make a torrent folder, and save them there. If you are in irshell(if pspkvm works in it) then exit out of pspkvm with Hold L+R then press X.then start the utorrent program or in irshell or Gnextop Beta 4. I think you can edit the irshell shell command to run a torrent program when you double click a .torrent file. If there is a .jar torrent program then that would make pspkvm awesome. I will ask the developers. I wrote them once and got a reply.

That's the whole thing, Gnextop isn't homebrew, it's a portal and can run on OFW.

It saves the data to the input history, but the input history isn't really that big in size at all, unless we find another way to increase the size alloted. Uh, just don't clear input history...
