[Release] Wagic, the Homebrew !?
older thread here
Wagic is a homebrew that allows you to play a famous Card game against an AI opponent.
In Wagic you build a deck of cards that represent your minions, and you fight epic battles against your PSP. Each victory lets you earn credits to improve your army, and allows you to progressively unlock cards and extra game modes (difficult mode, Momir Basic, Evil Twin Mode, Random Deck,...)
Version 0.9.1 has more than 3500 cards to play with, and you can add your own cards, or download new ones created by users on the Wagic forums. :Punk:
Check out the cheesy trailer :dj:
Game modes:
- 1 Player vs AI
- Demo mode (AI vs AI)
Game types:
- Classic (build your deck, and play with MTG rules)
- Momir Basic (google for it if you don't know what it is)
- Evil Twin (the AI plays with the same Deck as you
- Random Deck (you and the AI each get a random deck of 40 cards)
Wagic is available in the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish
The game mainly focuses on 1Player vs AI. You start with a randomly generated collection of cards, that allows you to create your first deck in the Deck editor. As you win games against the computer and earn credits, you can buy more cards in the Shop, and improve your decks.
Four extra features can be unlocked: a "Difficult" mode for hardcore players, a "Momir Basic" game mode, where you play with random creatures against the AI, as well as "Evil Twin" and "Random Deck" modes. Explanations on how to unlock these modes can be found on my blog.
Wagic is highly customizable. You can create your own cards, and a theme option allows you to add your own graphics mods. You can already find many mods on the forums such as Final Fantasy, Guild Wars, Naruto,...
Screenshots:
(These are the default graphics, but the game lets you add your own images for each card)

I love this homebrew. Keep it up!! I am a loyal Magic player and now a loyal supporter of your game. Hope you can add adhoc or maybe even infrastructure to the game.

version 0.2.1 has been released yesterday, and I see that QJ already made an announcement :o
This version fixes lots of stability issues and bugs. It also adds a few cool features and new cards.

Hey transce08, nice to see you here. When you released the first version of Magic PSP Station, I was half way to a playable version of my game, so I was worried someone had done the same thing as me. But actually MPS focuses on the 2 players game

Would be happy to hear some feedback from you !

is there a teaching mode or something? i've always wanted to get into magic, but i haven't wanted to spend money on a new card game. =[
through extropolar physics and things beyond your comprehension, it might be possible for me to not unconfuse you by speaking above you, below you and using words that i made up completely off the top of my head.

There's no teaching mode but it's pretty straightforward...
I got emails from people who told me they learned to play Magic with Wagic...but I suggest you download the rules from WotC's website before you start...
Edit : there's a manual included in wagic though, might be a good starting point

this is an awesome game, great work! I cant wait to make the deck I have now to use, this is awesome! Ive been wanting to get back into magic, but have never been able to get my friends to get back into magic, and I dont feel like spending money on MTG online.
And whoo, the AI is harsh.

FYI: The "Ice Age" version released a few days ago was not compiled by me and I haven't tried it, but I trust the guy who created it as he is one of the most active members of the project.
His version is version 0.2.1 with a few bugs fixed, and around 150 extra cards from the Ice Age Set.
This unofficial release will be merged with next official release, for those who'd rather wait.
Also, check the forums for new sets and extra content. I haven't tested all the cards over there, but there's around 500 extra cards for download. (also AI decks, avatars, and more...)
And because this is the developers' forum : Any help on this project from experienced C++ developers and/or magic players with coding experience would be great. I updated my first post with a link to the SVN repository. (Please don't offer your help if you have no experience, I don't have enough free time to teach C++, and I wouldn't be a good teacher anyway. If you're willing to help but have no coding skills, go ahead and create some decks, some icons, some graphic mods, some new cards... there's lot of room for customization in the game)

Hmm...this reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh lol. I haven't played that in years.
Currently open for Testing. PM me. QJ letter limit is retarded.

I am a huge magic fan. I will probly create some stock decks if I can find my deck info papers. If you want to learn to play you should go to wizard's site and get the rules. I might use my wip site for beginners.

this is incredible. i have a few bugs/suggestions...
1. the cards have that stupid grey thing over them with the text in white... there should be an option to remove it, because i see how it could help, but i prefer playing without it.
2. there seems to be a problem with the card "fireball..." or i just can't get it to work
3. when your in the deck builder, and you go your deck, the gradient in the background in really ugly...
overall its amazing, and its my new favorite homebrew!

Ingame, use the triangle key to switch the view between picture/text/none. Only the thumbnails are included in the release, so the game automatically switches to a hybrid view "text+thumbnail". You probably want to download the card pictures. If you have the pictures, it should look like this:

you can also see on this video the difference between cards for which the jpeg file is present and cards for which it is not:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4o8fORCUVNY
read the file "manual.pdf" included with the game, there's an explanation on how to use the fireball. Basically you have to click on the fireball again after you're done choosing the targets.2. there seems to be a problem with the card "fireball..." or i just can't get it to work
Agreed... something will be done, one day... If you now a good designer who's interested in working for approximately 0$ an hour, let me know3. when your in the deck builder, and you go your deck, the gradient in the background in really ugly...
Meanwhile, the gradient helps you make a difference between the deck and the collection, and it gives you the two most used colors in your deck. Pretty useful, huh ?

hey, i didn't know the gradients had a meaning. cool. but they're still ugly :P
also, where can i download card pictures from? a little help...? lol, thanks.
hey, and i just thought of an idea. how about adding more pre-made decks for the different sets, and packs for the different sets?

WotC's website : http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/
most of the pictures are also available at http://wololo.net/forum in convenient zip files, but it's rapidshare and other such sites, so the links die quickly
I also have an archive with all these files on my server, but given its size it is only available for donators.

Hey wololo, can you give me the link to the big file??? I have several sites on a free host so I can spare one site and give you 5GB storage and 50GB monthly bandwidth. I would give you the host's site, but the only server you can sign up for at the moment is horrible about staying online.
I will gladly give the 50gb bandwidth for this project.
P.S. If anyone else has it and will give it to me then I will go ahead and upload it.
Feature Request: Could you make Wagic use a savefile instead of test files for saving player info, player decks, and ai decks??? That way if I need to remove Wagic for space reasons I can just delete it and keep all my data???Last edited by corytheidiot1; 12-14-2008 at 09:23 AM.
