    Default Laser Invaders V5 [release]

    Laser Invaders V5

    Hi Guys,
This is a laser control game based on the PSP laser control idea by califrag.
Laser Invaders is coded from scratch, using the ps2dev.org Go!Cam demo
    as a template.

Version 5 has a moving starfeild which is removed from the screenshot
because in a still shot, it just looks like a bunch of dots.
All of the original invaders feature in this version of the game,
and for Laser Invaders V5, Intrafont text has been implemented.

The screenshot doesn't really convey the idea, so here's the videos:
PSP and laser area view of V1:
    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=AA9kmoSB73c
    PSP screen closeup of V2:
    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=j97p1ePJyh8

The idea is to shoot all invaders in as short time as possible.
Shooting special invaders will win you time bonuses which are
deducted from the time before the skill level report is calculated.
The time is displayed at the end of the game, and then any earned
time bonus is subtracted before determining the player skill level.
    PITIFUL
    DISGRACEFUL
    PATHETIC!
    HOPELESS!
    NOT BAD
    EXCELLENT
    LEGENDARY
    TOP GUN
    Update for V5:
    Implemented Intrafont library.
    Update for V4:
Added the last type of invader.
Laser Invaders requires a Go!Cam if that wasn't already obvious.
    Cheers, Art.

    Well, someone else's idea actually:
Control your PSP with a Laser WTF?
He just didn't do much with it.

Art, thanks for this. You've inspired me to pick up programming the PSP again and I was able to successfully fix the bug in my program that pissed me off to the point where I stopped programming because I just couldn't figure it out. Thank you!

Also, if you're in your bed and you turn out the lights, setting up a Cell phone with the Backlight on works as well.

    Fun Fun fun!

Great, some cool stuff to do with my GO!Cam.

And I was already about to sell it

EDIT: Lol, hi again. I just tried out this homebrew, and it's... how would I put it..
    AWESOME!

I like it really much, the control is so lag-free and it works great.

I just had to post a video on YouTube of me playing this game I hope you don't mind.

V2 is out now... a bit more fun than the first ver.
See the second video link in the first post.

That's probably it for the laser game, though I *might* come
back to this program and Intrafont the text.

well mate i took your tip and visited my local JBHifi store and.. lo-and-behold.. there was ONE Go!Cam left.. so i got it of course.. and im quite happy with how it performs.

i know this release thread has sunk to page10 on the boards, but i just thought id say cheers for pointing me in the right direction in regards to where i can purchase the Go!Cam.. without the suggestion id have payed around 100-120 bucks online, for something i got locally (literally just down the road) for $74.. so i believe that deserves a thanks.

    so umm.. thanks Art :)

No worries :) Last pay day I saw them at EB Games as well.

already have mate.. i have the SocomFTB headset.. mind you my latest "messing around with iRShell" episode corrupted my memory stick and i havent yet put AudioMechanica back on it.. good idea though

on another subject, and considering you have "both ends" of this idea im about to put to you, i thought id suggest it.

is there some way you could combine functions from BlabberBot and AudioMechanica in a way that allows "speech-to-text" on top of the already present recording and playback of the two applications.. i know that its probably a whole different "can of worms" but i just thought id suggest it seeing as you seem to be churning out numerous homebrew applications and games lately.. and its something that (i believe) hasnt been done before..

Yes it is a very different can of worms, but actually has been done by mypspdev.
He apparently ported Pocket Sphinx to the PSP, but I haven't seen any demo of it yet.

hah! this is cool.. but my battery died a couple hours ago, as did the little button cells in my laser pointer.... ive had a good go on it (id call "hopeless" ranking a good go)... i wasnt doing very well cos my place is fairly bright during the day even with the blinds closed.. but even still this is sweet dude.. ive already thought of a bunch of game ideas for ya, using this type of thing.. let me know if ya want to hear about em.. i noticed you wrote that you probably werent going to continue with this.. but i reckon i need to try and convince you otherwise..

try this little twist on the gameplay, try mounting the laser pointer in a fixed position so the red dot is stationary on the wall etc, and then move the PSP with your hands to "steer" the aliens INTO the dot.. so-to-speak... its tricky cos using your hands makes controlling it unstable

people if you have a Go!cam/ChottoShot (or have access to one through a friend etc) you MUST have a go at this thing... its a trip :)

A newer version of Laser Invaders is coming to iPhone!

I don't know how Space Invaders clone makers get away with using the original sprites.
They never call the game "Space Invaders", but often rip the likeness of the sprites.

Any ideas how they get away with that?
