    Default XMB Screensaver V2

    XMB Screensaver V2 - Art 2008!

    Hi Guys,
This plugin is written to launch a purpose written screensaver eboot after a predetermined
amount of time (approx 3.5 minutes) of inactivity in the PSP's XMB menu
(not that the PSP hardware really requires a screensaver).

    Multimesh Screensaver (Art)

    Flamez Screensaver (Fanjita)

    Plasma Screensaver (karmon)

The screensaver timer is reset any time you:
    - Press a button,
    - are watching a movie with the XMB video player
    - are playing music with the XMB music player
    - Have an open USB mass storage connection
    - are using the integrated web browser
    - are using the PSP GoCam!

Thanks to califrag of QJnet forums for some pointers for getting this working properly.

This will render the auto suspend feature under Power Saving Settings inoperative
because it kicks in before the lowest possible setting of 5 minutes.

The original Plasma demo has been altered to serve as a screensaver.
It does not alter the PSP clock speed, and is not interactive (any button press will exit).

    Please read documentation for instructions.
    Cheers, Art.

hey hey.. what a champion! the PSP finally gets a "true" screensaver

just trying out the Gears one now... waiting.. waiting... waiting....

hehe looks great Art :) is it normal for the PSP to fully re-start when returning to the XMB from the screensaver with a button-press/d-pad-movement?

ok now im gonna try the Plasma one... again waiting.. waiting...

ok ive just found my screensaver mate.. that plasma one looks brilliant... still full system restart though.. i assume because its an eboot..

    congrats Art.. nice job AGAIN

I'd prefer it didn't happen that way, but not sure why it does.
Even if the splash screen is disabled in recovery it still happens.
Any advice on that from anyone would be good, but I suspect only DAX could fix it.

The good thing is that anyone can write a compatible screensaver.

A good idea for someone would be one that does a slideshow of photos in the picture folder.

ps.. you should recognise the plasma from Time Baby :)

i know.. i remember that effect.. but i mainly used the "fire effect" which kinda looked like the old "hello world" proof of concept background, this one looked sweet on timebaby too though. but it was a little too "trippy" for me as an alarm clock...

i dont know if this is relevant, but i also found that i have to restart my PSP twice in order for the plugin to be enabled.. meaning i enabled the PRX in Recovery Menu as instructed, and then exit Recovery, and the SCE Logo runs and the XMB comes up, but the plugin wasnt enabled. then i did a full system restart and the plugin worked the second time.. is this normal, or is it my firmware perhaps (3.71 M33-4) or maybe i did something wrong.. everything works fine, i just need to restart twice to get it to work.. i triple checked it too, and the same thing happened each time.. ??

regarding your post, you mean ANY screensaver/app can be made/run, as long as its an "eboot.pbp" file placed in that SCREENSAVER folder? and i assume the associated files also go in there as well, as seen with the "gfx" folder of the MultiMesh Gears one..

that MultiMesh Gears one, you should add "pistons" and compressed-air-spray and electronic "circuits" and electrical "sparks"... and other "mechanical" styled effects.. probably silly and pointless, but would be cool to see..

great stuff anyway.. i might go on a hunt and see what eboots i can find to use with this plugin.. anything i need to avoid? (besides official firmware eboots)

I've fixed the coldboot screen after the screensaver by doing a reboot
after the screensaver so it looks seamless if you have the intro screen turned off in recovery.
    I'll post an update today.

Flames look awesome!!!! How's about some crackling in the background? just kidding or am I....this is simple but great at the same time. I think it's nice to see people spice up the psp's screen. Any chance someone'd make snow??...

Hey Art, just curious if you know of any way to read what setting they have the auto-suspend set to? I'm thinking it would be nice if instead of the default 3.5 minutes, it would check to see what the auto-suspend was set to, and if it was set to a specific timeout then it would use that timing instead.

And you should DEFINITELY add Moppi's Flower Demo as a screensaver it is one of the BEST!!!

YESSSS!! my favourite background from TimeBaby...

that looks choice.. and its almost a tribute to the "Hello World" POC by Fanjita... whom (i just noticed) you credited for it... and you fixed the SCE logo boot thing too. sweet.

i cant wait to see what other screensavers become available.. and perhaps an "eboot selection" option.. im relying on programs like iRShell to change/move files on the fly when i cant get to my PCs... of course that doesnt mean im at all disappointed its not available.. cos this is wicked as it is.. and can only get better..

    Default Thank you Art.

    Hello.

    Thanks alot art!

I've already messed around and got my pmfplayer playing my own video clip screensaver. It's great. :]

Is the hold button being on considered "pushing a button"? Cause it wont work when I have it on.

p.s. I would also like to know where to hex stuff to reduce or increas time.. using it for long minuets and turning on as an alarm would be the best!

Again, Thank you and the people who helped you along the way.

    Hello.

I'll have to look into it (Think I already used it once). Any progress on how to hex the 3.4 min wait time?

..OK, I'm basically skipping the great screen savers art has introduced in the packages. Like I said it is a great app. It has much much potential.

p.s. Is there any .gif/.png animation playing homebrew out there? Specifically one that launch a file upon the boot? Would appreiate the feedback, buddy.

    Dear Art,

I'm newsposter of PSP-Media.nl, and i'd like to create some new screensaver.
You say that anyone can create some new screensavers.
So, my qeustion is: How do I create new screensavers?

I'd like to hear an answer.

wow.. two "first-post"ers in a row..

@ Coolekido and TEMPLARD34ADLY... check the info provided by Art in the first post.. it will run an eboot after a set time.. so you need to create something/anything that can be compiled into eboot form. the thing is, its not the screensaver that makes up this program, the program itself RUNS the screensaver eboots.. the eboots are basically just animation demos etc, and need the plugins provided in the program to run them

most homebrews are made up in eboot files, or they are started from eboot files so that means you can load almost anything as a "screensaver"... but i think that having it run a homebrew game/app is defeating the purpose of this application.. but still, it can be done

    Hi,
basically you can write or recompile any demo program that will exit on any button push.
I was thinking of doing it with a few of the fancy GU samples.
The ones I provided all reset the PSP on any button push with the command from the
updated psppower library... I'll post about that a little later.. off climbing this morning.

I think the person that posted about runnign pmfs (gameboots) has an app that auto runs one.
I don't know if it keeps playing it in a loop or what...

    EDIT,,,
back from climbing, the way I exit the current screensaver programs is like this:
    if (pad.Buttons != oldpad.Buttons) {scePowerRequestColdReset (0);}

and it requires the updated power lib from ps2dev.org:

    Hello.

Yeah. The pmfplayer found in the ir shell app. I just copied the three files into your folder. Pmfplayer, it automatically loads ms0\movie.pmf, and, once it's done on the playcommand your taken back to the xmb.. you can press x for pause, or, Δ to boot xmb. I find it interesting to go along with themes.

p.s. Could you make a config file for this? Cause if I can load different file location for the eboot and reduce the "pre-screensaver idle time" it would be the best..

Ok, a lot to ask. If you pm me a a code or something on how to build a .ini or cfg file to adjust the settings, then, I'll get around to making it myself perhaps. (Well, if it only takes some simple hexing)

    Peace.
    YA boye!
