Default [RELEASE] Rock Station

Heres a project I started a while ago. It's been sitting on my HDD for ages so I've spent the past week slowly adding to it to get rid of it and here it is.

..::Rock Station::..
Rock Station gives you the chance to jam away using both drums and guitar for hours on end and even compose your
own music!

*Drum Simulator
The Drum Simulator gives you all the buttons on the PSP to use to your disposal to smash and crash on a virtual kit.
Once you've had enough making up your own beats you can access the music player and load music out of your
ms0:/MUSIC directory so you can bang along to your favourite tunes.

*Guitar Simulator
By using the analog stick to strum and ^/X/O/[] to cycle through chords you can play the chords like you would on a
real guitar.

*Composer
Those who have trouble keeping in time can use the composer to create their own music. The composer gives you
two bars two mess around with, adding notes in quater, eighth and sixteenth note positions and supports drums and
guitar.

*Notable Features
*General
-Drums, composer and guitar times displayed in main menu. See how much time you've wasted playing :P

*Composer
-Saving and loading.
-Support for more than the standard acoustic and synth kit setups when using the drum composer. Rock Station will
automatically read the contents of Sounds/Drums/ and list the folders in the composer menu. Make sure the folder
contains EVERY sound needed or it the program will crash.

*Drum Simulator
-Music playback while you play. Browser can be accessed by pressing select while playing.
-Multiple kit setups like in the Composer.

*Guitar Simulator
-Strum as you would on a real guitar.

Haha, thanks. I haven't tested this on a 1000 since that beta but I really don't see why it would crash. I'm not heavy on the RAM or anything like that :s

maybe i jumped to conclusions, because (in the quoted readme here) you mentioned it "will most likely crash on PSP 1000's".. but this is the release so it should be all good right? i havent tried it yet. only just downloaded it.. but when i do il let you know if its all good or not on my PSP Phatty..

anyway cheers again

Apparently this actually does work on 1000's from what I've read in the comments on the front page.

Also, I am not 'advertising' this as something like Guitar Pro so I don't want a bunch of people telling me how its not like it.

One more thing, if people want to post some of the kit setups they have with links I'll add a list to the first post

While reading this I was on the fence about downloading it. Then I saw you were listening to The Matches. INSTA WIN! so yeah, downloading now. =]

im on a psp phat 5.00 m33-4
i press SELECT on the drums
the screen fades to black a bit
but nothing happens
and no controls work except X which means 'confirm music choice'
then the fatal error, "File is not an .mp3" comes up and the only option i have is to quit

I'll have to add a check to see whether anything's in the music folder or not, thanks for mentioning it

I'm thinking about making another version of Rock Station. If I do make another release it won't be any time soon, I've got other, more important, things in the way. I'm just looking for ideas I could add. In the file browser I've added support for empty folders and I've also filtered it so only .mp3's and folders show. The home button has been re-enabled, the code has been cleaned up and the .mp3 playing has been redone and is now (mostly) bug free.

i will be eagerly awaiting the new version of course..

perhaps an option to change whole sound-kits on the fly.. for example i have several groups of drum-sound types, and instead of copying the "new" sounds into the folder to change them, maybe an option to just select a new "set"... for example you could change the way the program reads sound file names. for instance you could change the "bass.wav" to bass1.wav.. bass2.wav.. bass3.wav.. so that you can then select a "kit nimber" and it would use all files ending with 1 only or 2 only..

i hope you know what i mean. and i know there is already the option to change from accoustic to synth sets. also i dont have any problem with connecting to the PC to change sounds, but thats just it, i have to connect to the PC to do it.. an "on-the-fly" option would certainly be a welcome addition..

as for the others (acc guitar/elec guitar/bass guitar) i havent any ideas.. well, none worth mentioning.. they are pretty great as they are.. and as i said before, i have several mates who come over and we connect four PSPs to my SONY system and bash out lotsa noise, so theres no problem if anything is unchanged.. its all still good mate.. i just thought id add my suggestion to make things work a little faster for us VDruM'ers

Thats already been added Just chuck all the sounds (named correctly eg. snareon, wav, hihatopen2.wav .etc) into a folder then copy the folder to Sounds/Drums/. It should come up in the menu of the simulator and composer. Just make sure you have every sound used in there. If your missing one the game will freeze

bleurgh!! im such an idiot sometimes i had a different memory stick in my PSP and it had the old beta version on it that you sent me via email... time to check out all my memory sticks.. i think il just format em all so this doesnt happen again.. my apologies for wasting your time answering that post mate.

i will be sure to use that method you speak of... and will also try not to bother your thread again with unnecessary suggestions that are already implemented
