hey all,
Age of nations IV Pre release is out! ![]() Age of Nations is a Lua Coded RTS Game, based on Microsoft’s Age of Empires Game. New features of this 4th Pre-release: [GENERAL] New Game Engine Code Optimized (runs faster) All Bugs Fixed [IN-GAME] Map Scrolling Fully enabled Minimap Browsing was enabled (enables the player to jump to another location when clicking on Minimap) New Design & Interface Map was enlarged (now map is 1936*1632) [Add-Ons] New Main Menu Added Options Menu Added Pause Feature Added Musics Added Two fully playable Scenario Download: Age of Nations IV Pre-Release Last edited by seanpaul223; 01-25-2009 at 09:46 PM.. Yeh, some of the menus don't match the game and are sloppy, but I like what you've done. Keep it up, but a gfx on a lot of the menus would make it look a lot better.

nice to see a good game in lua instead of all thease wack coders making shells in lua (wich is pretty damn stupid)

Yeah thanks all.The fact is that this is a very interesting project, and i'm happpy to work on it.
It makes me discovers new things, and gives more experience about programming. Now concretely, i'll use this tell about news & feeds of the project.Lemme know anytime your thoughts and critics. |

I've not used this yet, but I plan on it. I love me RTS games and its about time the PSP got one... shame they never make them commerically for anything other than PC these days.
And yeah, LUA is pointless for shells as it doesn't "shell" its just loading one app to load another every time. I believe LUA was used to create games with originally and thats what it excells at, its fast to develop with (in comparison to C/++) and doesn't need constant compiling; yay for interpreter langauges! -Aura

Some Updates i've made since this Pre-release:
Interface: I've modded a lot the game. Some pics have been added for resources.Also, the player now can disable/enable the upper board (which prints informations about his own amounts of resources) or enable/disable the Minimap.These features speeds up a bit the game, especially when many items appears, or even when the minimap or the board are hiding something on the map. Engine
I’ve almost ended the main engine code.At 70%, to give an idea.This was the most important steps, as some advised me. Now using this engine as a custom function, i’ll be able tocreate tons of scenarios, campaigns,etc. Actually, the engine is able to perform many features. * Create Units (Peasants, Soldiers,Bowmen,Horsemen, Priests units) * Show Burning Animation when a build is attacked and its health is being reduced. * Repair Task is avalaible. * It is also possible to collect ressources.Stone & Gold ressources requires Some updates before being collected. What remains to do is building tasks,hunting tasks & some code for healing unit.I’ve also planned to add unit conversion & instant death (for priest), as soon as possible. @Gefa: You're probably right.But i my concern this loss of speed is due to pics and fonts.When many items are blitted at the same time or when a custom string is printed using fonts, some lags appears automatically.
I've reordered the code to bypass this. @M33_User: This is already done.I've increased the browsing speed, and added a new feature.You can now use Minimap for fast browsing.just click on the minimap on the way where you want to be, and you're automatically teleported there. 02-05-2009 I’ve added some new features to the engine. * Now Priests can heal units. * Peasants can perform building tasks now as well I’ve also modified a lot the background, adding some rocks and sand.This is just for testing.Maybe i’ll remove them after if it reduces the game speed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
