This' my first post and i'd just like to thank all the devs here for the wonderful work they've done. And of course Qj also.
I've been into the hombrew scene since only june of 08 when I finally successfully hacked mine (hardmodded my only battery) , but am steady at reading the updates and new ideas... I can now, "homebrewize", Mod, Re-model, and fix psp's, and am Known as the psp Dr. here in Glace Bay,NS,Can. I owe that to all psp devs and hackers for their knowledge, Thank you all. I've also been a QB programmer (only dabbled into VB and c) for years now and am a huge fan of the psp Dosbox and DBS. I have made plenty of prog's for dos (can upload my most recent game if requested, though I suck at art so I don't use much graphics at all) through QB, but i'm painfully aware that it is too outdated to provide usefull prog's for users..... or am I wrong? how many ppl actually use the psp dosbox and would like to continue seeing "new" prog's for it? Well... What I would like to do is get into the psp development scene now and finally do some "useful" coding for the psp. So I have a few questions, due to my experience with QB what language should I start with, what game engine's would you recomend (for FPS and RTS) and well..... Where do I start ?....is there a noob's guide at starting to develop in the forums? Thanx in advance ~Hannibal333~Dr.PsP~ Last edited by Hannibal333; 02-02-2009 at 11:24 AM.. |

i'd suggest c/++, however starting with lua can be easier to jump into than moving onto c/++ after you've some more experiance don't, not at first anyway, these are far too big of projects to be doing when you'r only beginning to learn the language(dabbing into c for a few years is not what i'd consider as an experianced user yet, however maybe you'r dabbing is more than i'd think, but i highly do not recommend such projects, at least not first, start small and expand

Thanx for the replies,
The TUT' u posted, waywardson, is exactly what I was lookin 4, but why must the development environment be setup "within" linux? we couldn't just use the pspsdk/toolchain within windows instead of using CYGWIN? |

you can, all cygwin is is a posix shell for windows that allows for the sdk to be compiled using mainly GNU tools. But it is completely possible to do it all through the dos command prompt, it will just be a complete *****. Also I'd really recommend using vmware with a virtual linux box over Cygwin, it is quite a bit faster(if you have an intel processor that is).
There are also many pre-compiled sdk's for windows where you can use the dos command line, but the only caveat is you cannot update the toolchain. You can however update the sdk. (assuming you install the proper tools such as wget and svn) |
