Exclamation [RELEASE] CFW Folder Blocker v1.1

CFW Folder Blocker v1.1

Some new UMDs are detecting files in the ms0:/seplugins and ms0:/iso folders and causing problems, even deleting files from these folders.

This plugin will hide these folders in GAME mode so they can't be accessed.

To install, copy cfwblock.prx to ms0:/seplugins and make an entry in game.txt
e.g. ms0:/seplugins/cfwblock.prx 1

This will NOT bypass any anti-ISO protection in games. It is for the protection of YOUR files on YOUR memory stick. Use the original UMD and it will work fine, and your files are also safe.

Changelog v1.1

It does not activate in Homebrew.

I don't know. The original UMD works fine with this. But without this, even the original UMD won't work if it finds the files its looking for.

There ARE other ways of detecting if running from an ISO.

What games are erasing peoples files ?

I would like to take a closer look at them ? (I'm sure I have them...)

When you try to run the unpatched DJ MAX Black Square, it deletes DJ MAX Clazziquai Edition.

**cough cough** hmm.. you would be referring to "removing the DJMaxCE UMD" rather than "deleting the DJMaxCE ISO" when you "insert the unpatched DJMaxBS UMD" (haha.. a patched DJMax UMD?? ok then) CoMbiNa doesnt condone piracy im sure..

Aside from deleting, there are UMDs which refuse to launch and quit to XMB if you have certain plugins in seplugins.

No, i'm talkin' about the iso.
Isos aren't all piracy, some are backups for people that hate UMD's.

( but not for me! I'm a pirate!

I'm not trying to discredit this in any way, if that's how I come across but how do you know the games are doing this? is this reported somewhere or substantiated? I just want to know thats all. It would make sense that games would start doing this though I just want to get some information about it.

your kidding right, the software being implemented is from the developer's of the games them selfs not sony, if sony wanted to, they could include in an update a check for these folders in their fw and auto delete them, but they don't, this would be a terrible implementation of the many choices sony has to take such measures, on the other hand, the developers of these games have only one way to attempt to stop piracy of their games, and this is that method,

secondly going around and suing people is defiantly not the action, as it only makes the homebrew scene appear to be the bad guys when attempting to sue companies when they add measures to protect their games

thirdly, get the **** over it, they attempted to stop us using ISOs/prx's, and torch stopped that measure, that simple, nothing more has to be done

Random binary for thread names works like a charm for me .

Anyhow, very nice plugin, I might head out and buy a newer game sometime.

Sorry, for this noobish question, but is there a certain file in the ISO that controls all this.

I have logged the memory stick IO operations of the games and seen it.

Wrote a PRX to log. The logging PRX evolved into this.

Any way we could scan ISO for code that does this and autopatch it?
Also, I second the request for a list of games.
Also, does this prevent the editing of these folders? That might be a problem for CWCHEAT.

No its specific per UMD. This is a feasible solution, as there nothing more they could really do from user mode.

I see this as becoming horribly annoying in the future.
Does the plugin just prevent deleting, or does it watch the cpu/ram for a certain function and terminate it?

PS: The last game I got was Castlevania. I don't plan on getting any new games. This is seriously rootkit league stuff. Congratulations, Sony, I hate you.

When anything tries to list the contents of the memory stick, it removes these folders from the output, so they cannot enumerate the folders. It also causes any attempt to directly open the folders or directly access files in those folders to fail. It sounds simple at first but when you try to code a similar plugin you'll run into some unexpected cases that need to be handled

Sounds like it might be bad for things that read from inside seplugins. Like cwcheat. In the future could you try to make it discern from UMD originated enumeration commands and ones originating from a plugin or homebrew?

Kernel PRXs are not affected. That includes plugins.

The current version does block GAME folder apps too. I can add a check for EBOOTs but then it won't be active for official games launched from GAME folder and not UMD.

In the future, it may be possible to patch games to be used in ISO form. So, I would say to just sticking to keeping UMDs from looking for folders other than the SAVE folders should be fine. Otherwise you start to cripple homebrew.
