Hi there, I connected a unmodded PS/2 mouse to the PSP. Here is a video that shows it, using the mouse with a mouse test program and the game Coded Arms. If you want to learn more about it click here. Here's the vid:

You could make one heck of a trackball controller for psp fps games. this is sheer genius.
then you could make a 3rd party product and sell it and make millions.

REALLY cool work!

Any chance of you releasing the circuit diagrams and the source?

thank you ppl =]
here is the circiut diagram what it should look like when it's finished

I guess I'll not release my sources since nobody needs it
the only ppl who need the binaries are those, who build this board and i guess that'll be not many

How much would it cost to build?

I have experience in electronics and would love to build this

well the hardware itself is pretty cheap
the ATmega8 is around 1,50€ (~2$), the MAX1674 is the most expensive thing (4€, ~5,30$)
the elkos, resistors, capasitors, led and whatever are some cents...
BUT you need to buy a ISP Programmer, the cheapest one i found is 25€, that would be around 33$
I'll upload my bins as soon as I've got the plugin finished 100%, if that is not today I'll release the beta^^
TD

EDIT: of course you have to buy a PSP Remote (for getting the plug) and a PS/2 Mouse, too

Interesting system. Any reason you decided to go with an Atmel? I was considering programming something like this with a 16F84A perhaps. I'm an electronics engineer in training, but I'm also strong in C. With your code, it can be easily modified to support external analog support .

You definitely have an awesome start here, I can't wait to see where you take it!

I started working with µCs not long ago
the ATmega8 is the controller I learned with so I'm familiar with it
=]
I could use a ATtiny25 or something like that but I'd have to implement software UART...>.<

Yeah that's my downside. I haven't learned enough UART protocol to manually program it in C. I'm going to write an algorithm this summer for communication between two PICs.

I don't get the joy of learning Atmel chips unless I do it myself. School is going to teach me ARM

What language are you coding in on the PSP side?

There's already plenty of pic code out there to talk to ps2 mice and keyboards:
PIC - PS/2 mouse interfacing and communication
Communication with a PS/2 Mouse using a PIC 16F84

Thanks! I know the code is out there, it's more of a learning experience. Plus, I work entirely in C.

I was just curious of his choice of chips. I'm a newbie in the microcontroller area and I was debating whether or not to translate to atmel or to jump right to ARM.
