that's pretty sweet are you coding all this by yourself?

no offense but you can't get anymore off-topic, stop bumping up this thread people. If _df_ wants to talk about his game then why doesn't he make a thread about it.
(I know the posts are about a rpg but not this one, thats what makes it off-topic. Just in-case anyone says that argument.)

Well, we'll have to wait & see. From what _df_ says it does sound really nice. But like many people i've seen so many good starts & promises by devs who didn't deliver. I remember this one, can't remember the name, but they promised loads, showed some really amazing screenshots not demo though but that made the front-page. Haven't heard anything since. So i have some misconceptions.
But i hope it will be good.

I really don't like Ultima style games. Will you have guilds? Like a guild of magic, or random shack guilds? That would be pretty neat.

well your game looks like final fantasy because thats what you like, my game looks like the old classic Ultima's because thats what I like with a good tactical combat system.

There will be guild houses, and hidden guild shops that you can gain access to. Sometimes this is the only place you can buy certain equipment.

Do you have a larger plan for your demo to turn it into a game?

Yeah, I even told some people what it is and they agreed it sounded good. Obviously RPG Demo is not a demo of a game, it is a demo of my mechanics, it is good to see someone finally saw that.

How much like Ultima will it be like? Will you be able to attack anybody. Also will MAGIC MISSILE be in the game? If it is, magic missile never misses! Do the enemies skills level up with you, like in a Bethesda game?

Well it isnt really ultima like other than top down tile graphics, but thats a staple of its influeces from classic CRPGS (Ultima III, Demons Winter, Magic Candle, etc).

There is magic missle but it does not always hit, you need to succeed in your role to cast it, and you must hit for more damage than they have armour, and it depends if it actually hits or not, etc.

eg: for magic missile costs 3 mp to cast, has a casting difficulty of Everyday (14, which you must beat with STAT+SKILL+1D20), its base magic skill is from spirit (and any other magic skill is classed as STAT+SKILL/2+1D20, so you can cast skills not of your class but it has a /2 penalty). Its chance of hitting depends on the targets REFLEXES + DEFENSE + 1D20, then I take into account different magic immunities (ie: zombies are easily 'held' but vampires or lichs are a lot hard to 'hold'. every monster has 8 kinds of immunities which rate from challenged (14) to godly (impossible dice roll).

you can attack everybody if you want. That will obviously affect your public reputation and alter different parts of the story and quests offered etc. It may rise the price of goods in that town, people might not talk to you, etc.

monster skills don't level up with the player, I really HATE that idea. Every monster has the same set of skills + stats as the players. Kobolds are low level monsters who stats + skills all low level (strength 2, ref 2 etc), they are weak and stupid, I see no sense in making them level up with the player. Monsters that have core stats of say < 3 below your level wont appear, so once you hit midgame you wont be running into kobolds in random encounters, scripted encounters yes, but no random wilderness encounters. and nothing super strong will be generated thats say > 3 over your core stats.

if you plan on making an crpg, will your monsters level up with the player?

But, but, buh, magic missile never misses. NEVER!

Magic of Dungeons & Dragons - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But I'm glad to know your not doing the "monsters lvl up with player". I too hate this idea. It's the only thing I find un-enjoyable about bethesda games.

If I made a CRPG the only time it will have it is if it was a diablo style of game with randomly generated maps, I might have that. But from what your saying it sounds no different really from the bethesda formula. If I understand correctly you will never run into beginner monster when your strong. If this is the case it might as well be monster's with stats relative to the player.Where as in final fantasy, pokemon, et cetera it location based. Which is what I would do even if it was CRPG.

I don't want you to give to much away but will there be items of legend in there? Like Excalibur, the Grand Grimoire, et cetera?

no, MM in my game does not always hit
as for monsters, they are more or less zoned, so once you get above a certain level you just wont have encounters in that area, I dont replace them with higher level encounters (that doesnt make sense to me like leveling monsters.. mm all the goblins moved out and all the umberhulks moved in?

it is pretty much location zoned. no legendary items (I have quite a few 'named' items, just nothing that would really be familiar like excalibur)

So after a certain level goblins won't attack you because they don't want to die?

Sounds good, can't wait till it comes out!

Meh, I bet they either won't respond, or tell you the team broke apart.

What's wrong with getting off topic? If your making a story; you start on earth and end up on the moon there is nothing wrong with that.
