Default Go! Cam - GPS Time Lapse Photography Demo

Hi Guys,

Here's a time lapse photography session done with AVEC GPS connected
to a GPS via serial port, and the PSP Go Cam via USB at the same time.

YouTube - AVEC GPS - Time Lapse Camera Demo

The video is produced by saving one photo frame for every map screen image capture,
and saving them one after the other. Then I used an AVISynth script in Windows
to crop the images and stack the odd images vertically,
and Virtual Dub to produce a WMV video for upload.

Cheers, Art.

Thanks
It was a bit of a marathon getting the camera working as well as the serial GPS.

A Garmin 60CSx at the moment, but it could be any serial GPS mouse.

Hey,that's a nice idea!Too bad it cannot be used with the PSP-290.
I tested AVEC yesterday for real and I want to share my opinion. The program is just awesome!Vector maps are something irreplaceable! However I think that you should start thinking about one of the most important things a navigation system must have, and that is a point-to-point route planner. In my opinion that should have the first priority in your project, but that's just what I think. Oh,and one more thing:a customizable cursor(or if not,at least a bigger one)would also be nice, since it's a bit uncomfortable to try and locate where the current one is while you're driving!

Greetings, and thank you very much for this homebrew!

Hi,
The auto routing would be a nice challenge, but unfortunately, the auto routing
data gets stripped from the Garmin IMG format when it is saved as an mpi.
Even if I could support it, noone could get maps with the routing data.

Saving tracklogs, and overlaying will give the program a practical purpose though.
One of the V6 features is plotting your position on the 3D terrain view
using the altitude taken from the GPS device.
It should be possible to also draw a 3D track on a mountain.

This camera thing is just a programming demo, and not really
intended to be a feature for a public release.
The program isn't so reliable at the moment when it has the camera routines in it.

This is where V6 is at now:
Quote:
AVEC V6 (XX/XX/09) :
- Implemented 3D terrain viewing mode for topographic maps with two configurable terrain exaggeration levels.
- Fixed bug present only in user mode version where the grid was not rotating with map while in GPS mode.
- Removed canvas size option from the configuration menu.
- Changed position indicator slightly to improve visibility.
- Added street names to map display at highest zoom level if street names are available in the map file.
- Fixed zoom routine to ensure highest zoom level is always available.
- Changed the default GPS mode zoom level to the highest zoom level.
- Removed delays in image capture routine that were not supposed to be present in any public release.
This will improve the program's performance in image cpature mode.
- Improved the look and the control of scrolling in the configuration menu.
- Sound now works in GPS mode for user mode version only. USB GPS routines are running in a dedicated thread.

The Go Cam was only for the purpose of making this demo video,
and others like it.
The release versions don't use a camera.
