AVEC GPS V8

Hi Guys,
Here is the AVEC GPS V8 release. I haven't touched it for a while.
This one has greatly optimised projection routines for much faster screen rendering.
Everything else is untouched and the PSP clock speed is still the default 222MHz.

Both serial GPS and PSP-290 USB GPS versions of the program are updated and included in the zip file.

Cheers, Art.

The serial version can use any serial GPS mouse like MapThis! does,
but you need 1.50 kernel mode to run that version.

Is it possible to use a third party GPS device (I have a Holux 236) on the PSP slim with a Mini-b male to mini-b male cable? I want to try it but I'd have to buy a usb female-A to mini-b male adapter just to do so.

I don't think (in fact I'm pretty sure) that no third party device will work through the PSP USB interface,
but a third party USB GPS can provide a serial output from the USB chip inside the device.
That way a lot of them can be connected via the serial port to the PSP (with some soldering).
I don't have the specific details about the mods though, just remember reading about it when MapThis!
was still being worked on.

On the other hand I think most serial GPS devices will work with the 1.50 kernel version no matter what brand.
Anything that works with MapThis! will almost surely work with AVEC.. due to exact same serial and USB NMEA sentence parser routines.

Yup, I found this all out after my post. I ordered this cable (first in list):

They sent me a USB extension cable for free for my PSP-290 GPS, for this app.

In case anyone cared, I received the cable I mentioned in the last post and it works great. So far I have only tried MapThis!, with a map of my local county that I generated off Google Maps (that's a whole other thing, figuring out how to get that done... heh)

I'd like to screw around with this program too. I'm assuming it might be a little less resource hogging and more efficient? The google map images look nice on the PSP, but the maps are kind of a space hogger... I have 16 gigs in mine, but still!

I like the idea of adapting garmin files. Sounds easy.

So would I have to use the 150 version because I'm not using the official GPS? I hope it works right for my slim.

I'm not sure if the 1.50 kernel version works on a slim.
You'd probably have to use Time Machine, and then I'm not sure the serial port works.

I take it the cable you're talking about is the serial cable for serial GPS mice.
There is also a USB extension cable out there on the market.

I did get the serial port working with the newer firmware version as well,
but I had unresolved problems with that version, and never released it.
I don't want a version with problems out there.

Yes, it's the "PSSGH - Holux GPSlim 236/240/M1000 cable for PSP Slim" from pc-mobile.net. Using it with the Holux 236. I have used it successfully with the latest MapThis on GEN 5.50-d firmware.

Hmm you're not the only one. It appears there are a lot of variations in the MP files that the converter isn't tolerant of.
I am prepared to give up source for both the GPS app, and the Windows converter (if I still have it),
but after five months, I don't expect to work on it again.

For demonstration purposes, the MP file should work if it fits in RAM, although slower.

Thank you for the quick response. The converter of PSP does not. The computer I managed to make it work but has blocked 8 886 *** (IMG converting> RUS RUS> MP). Today, with a much smaller map, I managed to do this work. Thanks again for this homebrew

"but has blocked 8 886 *** "
I don't know what the above means, but glad you got it working anyway :)

The PSP converter will always take much longer than the PC app (if it does work).
Just the sheer speed of desktop PCs.
