[Release] Mobile Assault (3D helicopter shooter, formally called Apollonia)
Hi everyone. Justin and I (the codetactics team) have just released v 1.01 of Mobile Assault (formally known as Apollonia).
It's been more that 6 months since we released 0.04a and a lot of improvements have been made. The most notable changes are:
- New title
- iPhone build
- More missions
- Textured units
- Upgrades
- More airstrikes
- Online leaderboard (so you can see iPhone v PSP users)
A more comprehensive changelist can be seen here
We'd really appreciate it if you give the iPhone version a go too, as it offers a slightly different playing experience than the PSP, especially when delivering airstrikes.

nice game, i would search it later on my ipod touch to install it and play it(And that rare for me becuase i only play games on my psp :) ) i also like your website, it looks super clear.

Thanks for the comments guys. We've been a while out of the homebrew scene, so I hope it's alive and well.
We're unashamedly trying to push the iPhone version too as it's the best way to know how much our game is 'worth' to people, so to speak. It's amazing how difficult it is to publicise Mobile Assault in such a crowded market place. I noticed that in less than 24 hours, lots of PSP sites around the world have picked up on the release, yet, with the iPhone, it's barely a whimper, so it's nice to see the contrast.
With the amount of non-English speaking websites picking up on the release, maybe Justin and I might have to hurry up and get some internationalisation done.

Good work, I'm following this since Apollonia 0.4 or so. Just one hint about psp version, it is no very friendly with going into sleep mode.

Kudos to 'ricketycricket' for being the first PSP user on our leaderboard. However, I see that there is also a 'GregCube' on there. The iPhone users have a bit of a head start on you guys, but I'm sure you can haul them in.
iPhone (with it's touch sreen) is way easier to do airstrikes, but I find the PSP flight controls much nicer to use.

Well I have already downloaded both versions since I own an iPod touch and a PSP and I must say that the iPhone version is quite better.
Still love the fact that you made two versions of it.

I have found three bugs.
- You can't change the name of the Default player.
- You can't create a new player.
- You get into the section to add/change player. If you press downward, the whole menu would shift downwards.
I am on 5.00 M33-6. Game plugins are disabled. MS-speed is disabled too.
I wonder how GregCube is there. 0o
Edit:
Make that 4. The 4th bug is that when you get defeated and you don't press anything to go back to menu, the PSP suddenly shuts down. :SLast edited by elite999; 02-28-2010 at 01:15 PM.

That's strange. This should work, which is why GrgCube is there. I'm assuming you're able to create a player though so you might just have to create a new player and switch to that.
Yeah, Justin told me about that one. I'll have to fix that.
So if you just let it sit on the scoreboard for a while, it crashes? Ouch, I'll have to look into that one. Does it crash if you win the mission?

We use the Sony OSK for editing the player names. What happens if you select the 'Change Name' option from the profiles menu? Crash? Nothing happens (game still functions)? Does the OSK show at all? What language is your XMB set to? Any details would help. We'll get to the bottom of this for you :)

i have bug, when i call in an airstrike (first option when pressing square, right?) it freezes and crashes my psp, running 5.50 GEN-D3

Old problems still occur. :Si'm surprised it hasn't yet, one of the front pagers should see it eventually
After I press enter after placing up my nickname, it just freezes. I can go to the homescreen, but when I exit the game the PSP perma-freezes (after that lifted up power switch for 10 s to reboot). I think I know what this is (or at least a variation), I got it last night. If you finish a mission with the Tactical Support screen up, then start a new mission, the game will either seem to freeze (if the mission isn't allowed to have tactical support), or start with the TS screen visible of which, when you press 'back' the camera goes nuts (if the mission is allowed to have TS).

how much is your ammo suppost to increase, i have 6/10 on "increase ammo capacity for all weapons" and still only have 750 gun, 30 hydras, and 6 hellfires.
EDIT
did a clean install of the folder and just copyed my mobleassault.db into the new folder and everything seems fine; also some time when flying around the trees and buildings just dissappear

I think Justin warned me about this one ages ago and then I forgot about it. If you stay at the helipad, does the ammo quanitiy increase past those values? In previous version the helicopter didn't start with max ammo.
Well, obviously there are lots of things for Justin and I to fix in the weekend. Good to see you guys are giving the game a thorough going over. Much better feedback than the iPhone users over at Touch Arcade: iPod Touch, iPad and iPhone Game Reviews and News.
I'll give them a hard time for being bettered by PSP users when we release 1.02.
On a side note, I also found a bug where the hellfires weren't reloading when at the helipad.

when it was working the hellfires wouldnt pass 5 and hydras 25; is there anychance that you could add a center point in the HUD?

Could you please describe what you mean?
Today I just squashed some bugs (some of them I won't share in case you break something). We plan to spoil our QJ download count by releasing a bug fix in the weekend. After that it's missions, missions, missions, so if you have any ideas for some, let us know, even if it requires us making some more models.
Good to see lots of you guys on the leaderboard too.

Exactly what I was talking about. Cmbeke, are you able to change the name? If yes are you running 5.00 M33?
GlennNZ, can you add the helicopter base status bar to see how much left till it is destroyed by the enemies? It would fade in and out corresponding to the enemies attacks.

We were wondering how far to take rts elements. Yes, we've definitely thought about adding 'health bars' to some things, especially mission critical structures. The fade in/out would be cool, until you actually just want to know what the status is and nothing is shooting at it.
Is this on the radar? The centre of the radar is meant to be the player, but I suppose we could add a cross or dot or something.

When the mission ends, data is written to the database. The database is created when you start the game for the first time. I wonder if it has gotten corrupt somehow and if this crash is somehow related to why some people can't edit their player name. I personally am running 3.52 M33
