Some of you have seen my older post about "GameLive" and the bad luck it had due to mess up system(Windows broke down on me then). I am here today to let you guys know that i did not gave up on this project and thanks to that a new fruit has been made to the world of Network Gaming. It's name is "NetGameOrb". I will no longer keep the old name "GameLive" since it almost the same name as "XboxLive" and for me, i find this name more suitable to the project.
OK here the basic idea behind the project "NetGameOrb". "NetGameOrb" or "NGO" for short is a project that will allowed "Homebrew" developer to make online game that connect to my server. The server will allowed people to play with other people around the globe. Almost the same way that Xbox Live service does. What the benefit of this service? Well to keep it simple, it will reduce the cost for developer on their project since they no longer will have to pay for a server to use or make them use a old PC to keep the server up. This server will be up 24/7 unless in maintained mode which normally will be about an 1 hour to 12 hour(if the problem is a really grave one). This is all in hope that more developer get encourage to make more online games(I am a big sucker for multiplier online game, especially if it has co-op mode).
OK, how do i make a game using this service? That simple, You will use a special lib that will be easy adaptive into any multiplier game. The lib will require from the developer only the a "NetGameID" and how the host will interact with the clients. The lib will include 2 or more example of how to use it. One example will be of a 1v1 game and another example will be from 4 to 8 player game.
OK, how do i get my "NetGameID"? That also simple, You only need to register on the main website and then send me an email at NetGameOrb@gmail.com with the subject "GameID - NetGameOrb". In the email you must include you NetGameOrb username and the title of the game you gonna use in it. I gonna keep a special list of gameid and title so that later i may also make a "NetGameOrb HBShop" where it let user download games that uses this service and also update them with little if any dificulty.
Will the service be free? Right now the service is in Beta stage so this will all be free for a while. After i can get it to a stage that it stable, i may have to request a small fee (like from $2-$5 per month). This is only if i need to do it to keep the service up. I don't think this is a big deal since most of us pay a lot more on other service that doesn't let hombrew in. Example: Xbox Live.

I gonna post a simple game on Friday or Sunday here on this same thread to show the service in action. Right now i am thinking of using pong and the main example of a 2 player online game.

Edit: Sorry guys, i know i promised to post it today but i got lock out my place today and it toke several of hours for my mom to get home and open do the door for me. Due to this, i did not get enough time to finish the game. The server is up and running and people can login into it(With the NetGameOrb lib) but my sample was the only thing i could not finish. I hope to have the sample game done by tomorrow after work or Sunday after track.
