Default Button Mashing Revolution v1.1 Bugfix

Hello everyone!
I have made a game with LUA called Button Mashing Revolution.
It's a clone of DDR. It has 6 songs, 4 levels of difficulty, and 2 backgrounds.
It's by me and Chris(PurePwnage) from TeamEvolution (http://rscx.com/dev/).
I coded it and made images, and Chris made images.
I have been working hard on this for a week, and I think it's very good.

Here's a screenshot:

Please read the file 'readme.txt' for futher information.

Download: Click!

Also, I would like to thank aRanDomPenGuiN from http://forums.qj.net/psp-homebrew-hacks-discussion/18457-my-homebrew-game-idea.html#post179656 for the idea.
And thanks to Shine for the Starfield background and Nils for the 3D Cube.

EDIT:
v1.0 had a 'grading' bug that was cause because at the last minute, I found that sometimes the grading would do 0/0 and would crash. So, I added a fix to it (in v.1.0). HOWEVER, it also cause the % to usually be around 2600 because the '*100' was in the wrong place, so the grade would always be 'E'. I have found the problem and is fixed. Also, the random keys going down to 1 then back up to 11 is fixed.

I'm thinking of dropping this, the DJMAX Portable thing is so much better, this game just looks...horrible. If you want, I can add some D-pad suport (not 8 buttons, just triangle is up, circle is right, ect.) so its easier to hit the buttons.

There is no D-Pad support. I might add an option for that in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

well the thing is I don't want an option to choose BETWEEN d-pad or the other buttons, I like to use both when using my controller on Stepmania or on DDR on my ps2

ok, heres my feedback.

OVERALL GRADE: B+

It could be better with:

d-pad support
better timing with steps
arrows instead of buttons

thats it, and then it would be at least a ddr clone. if you need help with graphics i can help i make ddr note skins for stepmania, i would be glad to if you need it.

it need to be like the ps2 ddr games when you use a controller. where triange and the up button are the same, right and O are the same, Down and X are the same, and left and [] are the same. you can press the buttons faster that way ^_^

I love this game!, A couple of things I would like to see in a future release biggest one is the ability to use custom mp3 files in the game (not sure if this is possible with lua I know nothing about any of that) and some more reaction from pressing buttons so that you can tell you are pressing it without feeling it, such as the button gets darker on the screen (not that I have that problem but I would rather see it)

I suck at the timing in the game, but it's still very fun. I'm not too bad at the real DDR, but I'm terrible at this.

Cool! I love DDR! Thank you!!! Does this have support for custom music and backgrounds? Cause that would make it cooler!

Default Wow...

And here I thought I was the only one doing this. I have a version that has arrows that use the default stepmania arrow, and cycle through on beat just like in stepmania. I also have the flat option, and the abiliy to toggle dark, and speed mods. If you want I think it would be a good Idea to collaberate our efforts and work together on this, and maybe we could eventually port it to C. My next step was going to be reading .sm files and basically having the ability to add your own songs as you please. I was planning on having this functional by the end of the week.

If that's on 2.0 with the user-mode LUA Player, then you're probably suffering from the current lack of diagnostics on 2.0 when LUA scripts go wrong.

I've got more diagnostics in the 0.7 build, and they show that this script seems to be suffering from problems allocating memory to load the images. I'm hoping to have a fix for this in the final 0.7 release, though it's relatively tricky so might take some time.

i dont know if anyone else has done this, but what i did was replace the button pictures (ie. cross target, cross white, cross) with the actual arrows from ddr so it feels alot more like the real game. ill try to upload the file later on today but i gotta get to school right now. check back around 3:00 central

Hmm, we'll add that in 1.5 if we get the chance... and we'll see if we can get all 8 button supportives.. until the true DDR comes out... i'll talk with my coder later today :-D.

hi!

i think that, for future updates of this good game, some difficult levels!

yes, you can increase scrolling speed but i think that you can do something like this:

easy: you use the four directional buttons (instead of XO/\[], in this release)
medium: you use 4 directiona+XO/\[].....so there are 8 spaces and so there are 8 possibilities!

hard: you use four directiona+XO/\[]+L+R!!!!!so 10 buttons!!!!

very hard: sometimes, you must push 2 buttons at the same time!!!! or 3/4!!!!
O_O
like /\ + L + ->

WOW

do you think that it's possible?it can be very niceeeeee!!!

Overall, this game is pretty fun.
Of course, the graphcis could always be improved, but this seems like a WIP anyway...

The music was cool.... but maybe you could add a mode with the D Pad being used?
Or maybe custom background instead of existing lua codes (?).

Anyway, it's pretty fun, and I played it for about an hour last night... only got a E grade :-S

Nice job

(yes, fellers, Im back )

Wow! What a great game! I loved it. In the next versions try making the D pad work, change the button icons (Weird circles with triangle, cross whatever look weird) and maybe a customized song editor thingy? it would be great

hmmmm......
this is fun, but it would be better if:
you had things like double arrows, u know, from the ddr games (this would be done by substituting the simbles with arrows, and if it is up and down at the same time, you would press triangle and down at the same time, or even x and up at the same time, dig?)

and if the arrows matched with the songs.

my suggestions would take a while to port, but meh.

Maybe in future version work out a way to plug a modded Xbox pad into the USB port of the PSP that would be awesome
