Oh that's what i found.
They are in Lua But converted to a format of some kind.
You go in USRDIR then look for LUASCRIPTS then you'll see
GTA.LUA.LC and other's.
their might be a way to convert them back to lua.

But it might be something else.

So what you are all saying is that some of GTA is written in Lua? I kind of find that hard to believe but who knows right?

not too hard to believe many 3d games have been made with the use of lua scripts. Im sure it controls something minor but still amusing. Many people talk bad about lua, but here it is helping power GTA

probobly just simple commands like...load a car in this random position and this one over here....oh and turn that light red. It would all be coded by the developers but then made into some simple commands which could be easily executed in lua

Hmm.....
I Found this
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<wc-entries
   xmlns="svn:">
<entry
   committed-rev="10373"
   name="startup.lua"
   text-time="2005-08-28T15:29:56.826213Z"
   committed-date="2005-07-11T11:27:31.609375Z"
   checksum="173eb4f490e30a78278920e894c62bb9"
   last-author="robm"
   kind="file"
   prop-time="2005-08-28T15:15:42.171336Z"/>
<entry
   name="TEXT"
   kind="dir"/>
Notice = name="startup.LUA"
Lua must be populer then i thought.
I just wanna know how lua can handle it.

Lua isn't just made for us. Lua has been out there since 1993 http://www.lua.org so its not just for us. And its rockstar games that makes GTA not $ony. Its just that R* decided that they were going to make some parts in Lua thats the end of it.

apparently it uses 2.0 prxs and modules so screwing with a lua script won't do much but waste your time trying to get this to run on 1.5, good luck anyways...

The luascripts seem to conrtoll the mini missions such as:
"Multirace.lua.lc
Capturetheflag.lua.lc
defendthebase.lua.lc
deathmatch.lua.lc"
And so on. It looks as if the game types could be edited and new ones could be introduced...

I would say you all smoke crack, but there is some hard evidence they actually do use Lua:

A Rockstar dev was in a Lua conference: http://www.lua.org/wshop05.html
Rockstar's job applications for Rockstar Vancouver require skills in languages including Lua: http://www.rockstarvancouver.com/ifr...ts/careers.htm
Also note the job description: Rockstar Vancouver seeks a creative, yet technically oriented game designer whose primary responsibility will be to implement mission designs using our proprietary toolset and LUA, a powerful light-weight programming language.

Former Rockstar Vancouver devs created a new game, Sins Of A Solar Empire, which supported the Lua scripting language for extensions: http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=1842

However I'm going to take a guess and say that since Lua is so slow (for complex 3d languages, it IS interpreted after all, although it seems Rockstar may have compiled for a speed boost), this is probably just handling basic things like dandesousa suggests. Plus, the job description seems to indicate Lua is used to design the missions, and not to handle the game rendering or any of that. Damn cool though.

It's not the same version of lua made for homebrew.

It seems odd to get so excited over lua being mentioned in a PSP game, when probably 99.9% of all PSP games are written in C/C++, which everyone here has access to as well.

After all LUA is just a branch of C/C++ anyways. You can get LUA compilers that will take your C++ code and convert to LUA and vice versa.
