On an RPG do you guys have a preference on the setting for the story?

I prefer the "dragons & wizards" variety, but there should be more games in a pseudo-Industrial Revolution style setting like Wild Arms, Dark Cloud 2, etc.

I like machinery of that era, particularly like in the animes Steamboy or Last Exile.

Futuristic with swords mostly. Or maybe a character (lets say Gale) is living a normal life but some strange creature attacks his town. Then somehow everything just goes blank and he's stuck in some other world all alone...but throughout the game he finds his friends but some don't remember anything from the past at all. They don't remember anything from the past. Gale finds a town (let's say Edin's Nest). Then an unknown enemy force (Lets say the Unknown) attacks the town with swords, but no one can defend against them because they only know how to use a gun and can't fight close range. In the crowd Gale sees his friends that couldn't remember anything killing with swords and realizes that his "past" wasn't real and was created by the Unknown just to teach their people to use swords and brainwash them. Hmm, clever...let's see someone take it from here

I think it should be like a post-apocolyptic world, where everyone is starving and dying, exept for the (evil organization) which are using everyone. Then you find out that it was the (evil organization) caused the apocolypse just to become rulers of the world. Then you sware vengence and so on

Well allow me to offer some more insight to my mindset.

option 1::
6-12 months ago I purchased all these out of print RPG manuals for a game called "Mutant Chronicles". It had spinoffs called "Doom Trooper (and an SNES name under the same name), "Warzone" (tabletop RPG) and a cancelled XBOX title under the name "Warzone".

I bought them for the purpose of building a 2-D rpg in the universe. It's pretty neat. Earth is destroyed by Pollution and the universe is colonized by 5 major Corporations. One corp unleashes the "Dark Legion" (led by 5 apostles) on the world and then there's the "Brotherhood" who can cast "The Arts" magic. 2 Corps use a lot of swords, but the game is best defined as a "Technofantasy".
Look it up online, if you're interested...

option 2::
A comic book that got through 9 issues in 99-2003 called "Battle Chasers" by Joe Mad!. Wizards, bounty hunters, little girls with magic power, robots, monsters. It's great...

Both the above have the whole "copyright" issue...

option 3::
A self contained story written by myself and a friend. We have two concepts.. one involved a holyknight falling from grace into a world overrun with Vampires and monsters.. very dark but heroic. Second involves Pirates and Ninjas and chainsaws and Zombies.. sort of pseudo-modern. More "Earthbound" than "Final Fantasy"....

Any thoughts?

Let's throw in an M14 with a grenade Launcher attached to it while were at it...wait...where have I seen a weapon like that before? Why not a legendary demon sword named Sparda? well okay i like them both mostly cause of tales of series is set in a fantasy world and star ocean is furturistic

That's the one. It sounds cool, except maybe a few changes such as he was an angel who did something to anger god so he was sent to help Earth but on his descent he is attacked and one of his wings get broken. He later gets the name "BrokenWing"...Okay maybe not that last part...

Personally I loke both, however, I have been playing Anarchy Online for a long time and im big into the futuristic guns and swords thing. Im also reminded of an old future set RPG named Syndicate....

Yeah framerate, I like both of your original idea's best....although some sort of spin off on that 5 coroporation one, in an apocolyptic world (as suggested) would also be sweet...and battle chasers is damned cool, but has a large following...I dunno I think it's best to stay original, for when it becomes a big hit, right ? ;P
