WIP Lua RPG Update 2
I've progressed a bit further in the RPG I've been making. The new things I've added are NPCs with basic dialogue, a basic battle system, and a few bug fixes. I have yet to find someone to make sprites for the game, but when I do, I'll release a small demo.
Still todo:
- Scrolling >.>
- NPC Animation
- Music!
- Storyline
- Graphics
And finally the link :
http://vicagu.freeownhost.com/fchaosRPG122305.zip
(Copy and paste link to address bar if it doesn't work when you click on it)
Controls :
D-Pad to move
X to talk to NPCs (you must be facing towards them)
Select to exit
I would really like suggestions and feedback. Oh and please vote in the poll, I really don't know whether I should use up all the screen for the game (If i don't use the full screen then the game will be centered on the screen). Screenshots below:

Looks nice!
If you can put more into the GAME itself by saving space, then to hell with full screen! Just stick with a nice, standard screen size and put all you can into the game itself!

Best of luck!

Awesome. Can't wait to try it out. Hopefully you can make a great story out of it..and maybe even some extra things...like more complex battle system..or something.

Thanks for all the comments.
No, I don't have a story in mind, I'm not too creative in making storylines. I'll eventually make one or ask someone to make one for me.

Full screen, and also, if you need a storyline person, I am you man. I am great at making stories, if you want to read one of my works, Ill give it to you. I am great at details, etc. And I have always wanted to write a story for an RPG homebrew game (oher than the one im making) well, consider the idea, and full screen is the way to go! :)

I think you should use the full screen for the game. Maybe you could have the one of the buttons activate stat info temporarily, and you would push it again to remove the stats. This way you can have a full screen game and access to important stats when you need them. The stat bar pop up would probably take up a chunk of the screen so you can still see the action, but hopefully not block the view.

not bad - full screen is nice but having a gui with stats is almost 100% better imho.

I think you should use the full screen to make the game more immersive. If you want the user to see other things have a small menu that the click of a button brings up.
Oh, and I could try my hands at a story, been wanting to make an rpg of my own, but I didn't have the time. So, just PM me and I'll see what I can do. :)

Full screen. If you need anything "on the side" etc, you should create a "shell" type thing that floats above the background (game). (like in most games these days, it holds your "health" "armour" "current weapon selection" etc.
Keep it up, this is looking good.
dont settle for a crappy plot, if its too Cliché, boring, predictable just say no, and start again. The plot will make or break a good game.

great work, suggestion:
you should use full screen but make it like Final Fantasy when you press Triangle to bring up da stats .etc
is that the fastest it can go in LUA or can you make it work faster

Ok, now that i see everyone's thoughts on this, i'll make it full screen. I'll make it so that when you press triangle it'll go to a new screen with your stats, weapons and armor. I already have someone making the story, so thats taken care of. And what do you mean by making it go faster, Vaza?

hey definately go full screen but u should have a health and mana display in the top corner or something. Also I dunno if itd have to be entirely reprogrammed but itd be a lot nicer to have the game as a standalone program rather than have to go through lua to use it. Kinda like how who wants to be a millionaire, that was lua b4 but he made it a standalone. I dunno u might have to reprogram it in c++ for that tho if so dont mind me just an idea. Also u should make sure to have a good story that has some depth to it if possible kinda like a final fantasy game but that might b too much work for u. I cant wait for this game tho dude. If this works out like it could this might just b one of the best homebrew games out there. Keep up the good work man. I havent actually played the demo but I will soon probly. Also if u need ideas for ne thing Ill try and help. I can test too but nothing too complicated cause Im no genious. Idk if u need help wit ne thing still but if u do pm me and Id love to help.

it seems like the player is a robot, is there a way to make them move properly or is that not available on LUA.

Vaza.
Edit: Forget about the story suggestion, just saw that ur other post said that you already have it taken care of.Last edited by Vaza; 12-23-2005 at 02:56 PM.

I made the movement like that by choice, because its a lot easier to do collision detection and whatnot like that. Lua does allow you to do a full movement like your thinking. Maybe if enough people want it I might do it like you want it.

I think more fluid/full movement would be better. It just ups the presentation of it and its easier on the eyes too. Once i look around the forums and figure out this whole lua thing and how to get it and your game working on my psp I'll comment some more. n.n ;
:ok I found out how to get lua working good through fanjitas .085 loader and all, but when i try to run the demo it doesnt load up. I press "o" to load it and it just freezes for a minute till i press start then it goes back to the top of the lua applications list and thats it. The other sample apps for lua that came with it work fine but the demo doesnt. If anyone knows what tiny little detail i missed that I shouldve noticed to get this to work correctly that'd be great.Last edited by Balmungsama; 12-23-2005 at 11:49 PM.

how long do you think this will be until it comes out?
i have full support and if you need any ideas just pm me.
ps. is the map going to be like that in the final version (teleport pads or whatever they are), i think it should be like the camera centering on the player and the camera moves around the player.
(have you ever played Final Fantasy or Pokemon on the GBA, i think the camera should be like that)Last edited by Vaza; 12-24-2005 at 05:28 AM.

Yes, it will be like that. What you're talking Vaza about is scrolling. I haven't gotten around to implenting that but I will eventually. I've decided to add full movement. I don't know anything about how to get this working on 2.00 since I have 1.5 and I've never tried the loader.
