I was working on the battle concept for my game in development, and wanted to come up with something pseudo-original for my game. After a few weeks of thought, I came up with a pseudo-first person anime influenced mode... sort of similar to old dragon warrior games.. But it has been brought to my attention that it may be best to just go with an old favorite people are used to... what do you think?
Dragon Warrior Variant (low quality mockup). The final would be more "anime-ish", 2-D. There would be simple 1st person battle animations and special attacks would have special full screen animation/display (imagine a picture of the main character with the sword doing an amazing attack come in real fast half from the top and half from the bottom). Other enemies would be displayed in the background on left and right of the current "active" enemy and switch places on their turn. Final Fantasy Clone - just a clone of the enemies on the left, characters on the right menu at the bottom that everyone has grown to love over the years. Which one do you prefer for the initial release(s) ?

The new one works....and I can tell you right off the bat it will be alot easier to impliment and program for....I went with a FF type battle system and it's kinda a pain in the ass, and you need ALOT of animations to make it look decent...
The style you have now lends itself to being alot more simpler and will get your game out the door ALOT faster ![]() Either way is good tho.... edit: the only thing I can think of is you may be limiting yourself to what type of effects you can show off durring battle, with the first person view....but that also makes it alot simpler.....but it's a good basic start, that you can always change later....

Im going with Dragon Warrior, because its going to be cooler, and something new for a change. If i want final fantasy, i can just play Final Fanatasy I and II Dawn of Souls, or Final Fantasy IV on my GBA.

I wouldn't mind a Final Fantasy type, but I voted for something different. I know I'm going off of the beaten path here, but bear with me.
If anyone has ever played Grandia2 for Dreamcast or PS2, then they will know what I'm takling about. It is a semi-active battle system. In Grandia2, it is 3d, but maybe you could figure out a way to make it into a 2d format. Your character stands there and waits for the action meter to fill (like in FF games) and when it does an option comes up as to what action you will perform. Attack, defend, magic, etc. It is timeable though so that you can choose when to run up and attack as long as the option is up on screen, and counter-attack. Like I said it is kinda hard to explain unless you have played the game. Good game BTW. But I could do with a FF type game too.

I'd have to say an action/turn based system, like FFXI (The Final Fantasy MMO)
That way you have a good ground to work on for creating a MMORPG for the PSP, =p It would be great to beable to turn on my PSP during break, jump in an MMORPG, kill a couple mobs, sell a couple items, mabe check up on my plants or something. I'm not saying exactly like FFXI, but something close. Just wishful thining I guess... |
