Default Converting PC to PSP

Without a hugely complex answer - how difficult is it to convert PC programs to run on the PSP (Quake being a good example as its already been done)?

I'm a VB programmer and I havent done C since college so its rusty to say the least!

Just in case you're curious....

Im trying to think of a way of getting some Bullfrog classics onto my PSP - namely Syndicate Wars and Dungeon Keeper 2. I'm currently scouring the net to see if the source code ever got release. I don't think bullfrog classics were quite as open source as the likes of Doom and Quake.
Unfortunately I think the Bullfrog team got requisitioned by EA or someone so its not even like I can ask them if they plan on converting any of their games.

I havn't actually ported anything but I would say it depends on the program. QUAKE II is a large program with lots of complicated coding so that obviously must have been hard to do. If you were to port something like Snake or Pong I would think those would be relatively easy. Syndicate Wars should be easy(it is text-based if I remember correctly) but anything such as 3D games will most likely be hard to do because you have to make the code compatible with a system for which it was not meant to be released for.

I dont think syndicate wars was text based.

Google for it, its like a 3d strategy game, quality.

It will be impossible to port anything that you don't have the source code for, and as far as I know Bullfrog don't release their sources . A shame, as Syndicate Wars is a brilliant game, aswell as the DK series.

While we're talking about ports:
Would rebuilding an already made PC game from scratch without the source be considered a remake? Right?

I'd say so. Depends how close to the original the remake was I suppose.

Thanks for your replies, and you are right, it seems that despite the games being old and the company being taken over, the source still hasnt been released. Shame as they would make a quality addition to the PSP lineup!

I've always wanted to attempt an RTS, a simplified Dungeon Master might be a laugh to attempt . I seem to be darting from project to project faster than I can keep track of them all, they'll all get finished eventually
