I've taken some time off of my other project, and threw together a quick base for a Dopewars style game. The gameplay should be done tommorow, depending on how much time I get to spend on it, aswell as an online highscore list.
What do you reckon to the funky colors for the interface, do you think a clean interface would be better? I'll be writing a simple skinning system once the rest is done and dusted, so in the end it won't matter ![]() I've also contacted the developers of 'DopeWars Online', in hope that the client will eventually work with them, to add to their already impressive client base of over 7500 users(apparently).

That's cool, but I assume this is browser-based right?
Will there be images to look at as we play, besides that one on the menu?

Nope, this is written in C. I'll eventually write a HTTP frontend aswell, so you can play from either the PC or the PSP. Also that is a very early screenshot, I've only spent 5-10m on the graphics so far, so they are by no means the final ones. Just thought I would let you know I'm working on it

Cool, can't wait for the release. I had so much fun with Dope Wars, this should be addicting. And the Mac OSX type dock or toolbar down there is to show the drugs you are carrying right?

I wasted many hours at college playing this game :mrgreen:
Now I have a chance to waste many more! Just out of interest are you using any of the psp/trunk graphics libs? I did a little looking on google for dopewars source code that could be ported to SDL, PSPGL.. but I'm guessing, as it is a text based game, you'll be using the standard pspsdk functions for the graphics.. and using some of the procedural code from an open source project? |

I'm writing a Dopewars style game from the ground up, as I couldn't find any examples of Dopewars using GU/GL. I'm going to rework the graphics on the buy/sell toolbar tommorow, aswell as adding all the usual features(BUY/SELL/JET), and if I have time police/merchants(guns, larger cases, etc).
It's going to be online in a way, as in it will record scores online after every game the user plays. At the moment it will not have any mutiplayer modes, but I hope for that to change as soon as the developer of 'DopeWars Online' gets back to me. I might be writing a clone of an old game, but a clone of a clone..nah . You will be able to play it online or offline, as the only section that needs net access is the score recording portion.

Once I get the initial game finished, I'll modify it to work with Fanjitas loaders. Currently it is all working in a single thread, but once I add the highscore ranking it will require another thread for the net code. Removing the ranking will be pretty simple, so creating a custom version for 2.0+ users shouldn't be a problem
![]() Edit: yeah, saving onto the memory stick won't be an issue, just a matter of a few lines of code really.

Just make sure that Canada has some of the highest quality weed in the game....because it's true :P
Otherwise the online scores sounds sweet....that's something I wish I could implement into my games...but I guess it requires a working knowledge of SQL or PHP ??? Keep it up my man.... edit: http://www.rense.com/general67/candr.htm Read that, I guess you'll have to make the weed super expensive in Asia.....damn, 70-90 $$ canadian for a gram....that's insane.....i'm rethinking my whole wanting to live in japan or china now :P

Hey, with the control scheme you have going on, maybe you could do something like this...
Keep it like you have it, then have countries on the outter circles be like major distributers, then have smaller countries, that are harder to import to, be on inner circles, and have some sort of reward for getting it through to a harder to import country ? Have like the pentagon in the middle or something ;P Just something that came to mind when I saw your menu....

Meh. I've got the game on my phone. It's been ported to almost everything (as Overload knows).
It's OK, but lacking in depth. Now, if you were to make it more "interesting" gameplay-wise, that would be an improvement.

I finally got some time to come back to this project(if you can call it that), and am making good progress. One thing is puzzling me though, which are these assembler warnings I'm getting when compiling from cygwing. I believe the code that is causing the problem is what I've pasted below, but really it shouldn't cause any trouble, at least it didn't when testing with lcc. If anyone has seen this strange warning before, or might know what is causing it a solution would be nice, as I hate unresolved warnings when building :P

Been playing about for an hour or so, and I've got buying sorted, aswell as a few problems I was having with setting the price modifiers for each area. I'll throw selling in tommorow morning, and then it's really just a matter of cleaning it up and adding more depth to the game.
Here's a screenshot from my test version. As you can see, the prices need tweaking, aswell as the modifiers but that is a quick and easy job.
