Exclamation Rise Of The Triad v0.99 - now with music

Rise Of The Triad PSP v0.99

This is a PSP adoptation of Rise Of The Triad, 1st person shooter, originally developed by 3drealms/Apogee.
Special thanks to people @ http://icculus.org/rott/, who developed the SDL/linux version of the game.
Please read the attached documents for credits and other information.

If you are unfamiliar with the game please read this great article:
http://rott.classicgaming.gamespy.com/hell/

WHATS NEW
-------
- added music support via timidity (read installation instructions below)
- overclocked the CPU to 333Mhz - the game seems to run smoother

INSTALLATION
--------

- select between the shareware and full versions (shareware game files are included;
you can purchase the full version from www.3drealms.com)
1.5 users: copy contents of 1.5 folder to ms:/PSP/GAME
1.0 use EBOOT.PBP from 1.0 folder with data files from 1.5 folder (make sure your include .rott directory)
2.0 Please let me know if either version works with the latest eboot loader for 2.0 firmware

If you own the full version of the game use the EBOOTs from the "full" directory with the DARK WAR data files.

MUSIC SUPPORT
------------
If you want music support, make sure to copy timidity.cfg & instruments folder in to ms:/PSP/GAME/rott
The compact (no thrills) timidity version is provided in shareware 1.5 folder.
If you want quality music, download http://www.libsdl.org/projects/mixer...imidity.tar.gz
and copy timidity.cfg & instruments direcory from there.
The downside: the full version is large (~17MB) and is going to
pause the game for ~10 sec every time music changes. If you have time, you may want to experiment
with sounds and create a custom midi mapping for the game...

CONTROLS
----------------
Due to ovious PSP limitations, some game functions are not mapped in the default key configuration.
If you don't like the control layout/functions - you can re-assign them in the controls menu.

GAME PLAY
-----------
THIS IS STILL A BETA VERSION! So it may be a bit unstable.
Refer to original documentation for details on game play.
Network/multiplayer modes are not supported in this release, but you should be able to use some multiplayer levels in
"exploration" mode
!There seems to be a problem with the cut scene in the begining of the 1st level.
So if you see a black screen, hit enter/space a few times to speed up the load process...

TODO
----
NETWORK/MULTIPLAYER SUPPORT - hmm, this may take a while
FIX OCASIONAL CRASHES

Enjoy,

DENIS

I tried this on my 2.0 Firmware Psp using Fanjitas 2.0 Eboot Loader and everything is fine until I am forced to make a yes/no decision because it asks me to save the sound configuration. The sound is working fine but after I make any yes/no decision it crashes and I have no choice but to restart the Psp.

Could someone else try it?
This "yes/no" thing does not sound like a game prompt (cause I have never seen this message on my 1.5 version.
You can try to
1) Try diff version of the loader..
2) Try to play wth timiity configuration file
3) remover timidity folder and conf file - ie play w/o music
4) revert to 0.9 version - I got reports that it runs OK with 2.0

I tried this again after making sure it ran on my 1.5 Psp. I am using Fanjitas 0.9 Eboot Loader under my 2.0 firmware Psp. When I run ROTT, it immediately goes to a screen that says ''Sound Setup''

in the sub menu it has the following:

Setup Sound FX
Setup Music
Sound FX Volume
Music Volume
Quit

So no matter what I try under 2.0 firmware, for some reason it goes directly to a sound setup menu. The strange thing is, I cannot even find this menu when I run it under my 1.5 Psp. Also this happens whether I use the 1.0 Eboot or the 1.5 Eboot under my 2.0 firmware. The crash is caused on any exit, ie trying to save sound settings, quit etc.

Thumbs up

Many thanks for that new release Deniska !
However, the music doesn't work on my 1.5 euro PSP (i've put the file timidity.cfg in the rott folder and pasted the "inst" folder of the shareware version , and it still don't work ) Maybe it will be good in v1.0 :icon_wink

Good work :icon_smil

ps: sorry for my bad english

here's the stdout.txt opened with the note pad :

Rise of the Triad Startup Version 1.4
CD Version
Z_INIT: 9950000 bytes
IN_Startup: Mouse Present
Adding darkwar.wad.
Adding remote1.rts.
W_Wad: Wad Manager Started NUMLUMPS=3904
RT_DRAW: Tables Initialized
MU_Startup: No SoundBlaster cards available.
SD_SetupFXCard: No SoundBlaster cards available.
SD_Startup: FX_Init
No SoundBlaster cards available.
RT_MAIN: Fonts Initialized
RT_MSG: Message System Started
RT_VIEW: Colormaps Initialized
Init SDL

And this is what i've got in the rott folder :
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7545/rott1hx.jpg
When i put the files in the '.rott' as written in the readme, the game doesn't start...after 10 sec it comes back to the shell...whereas it works when they are in the same folder as the eboot...

Thanks for your help

Well id didn't work with the GTA loader (for version 2.6). I cried about it for awhile (7 times) and i'm finally over it... ok wait i'm going to try one more time...

CRAP ... nope .. it just sits there with a black screen then the PSP just shuts off. Should i try the 1.0 version of ROTT (would that make a difference?)

Hmm.. looks like the files are in the right place...
Why don't you try to put the original timidity package and see if that works...

Hello. I'm very new to the PSP scene so excuse my ignorance

I have software version 2.60 in my PSP.

I downloaded ROTT_0.99.zip and extracted it to a folder on my desktop.

I connected to my PSP with a USB cable and copied to the PSP/GAME folder on the PSP the rott and rott% folders in the Rott_0.99.zip/shareware/1.5.

So, in PSP/GAME I have rott and rott% folders. I can see the Rise of the Triad listed on the PSP but it doesn't run. It says the game can not be started. The data is corrupted.

I tried copying EBOOT.PBP and the .rott folder from the shareware 1.0 folder of the zip to the PSP/GAME/rott folder and get the same message.

Can anyone help me get this game running? I'm a HUGE ROTT fan.
Thanks!

Charlie

I purchased another PSP with firmware 2.00.

I can get ROTT.99 (full) to run with the .096 eloader (TIFF).

I can get music working by using the full "instruments" package. The game pauses for a while during music changes. It also locks up the PSP when your playing and press SELECT to go to the menu. Everytime.

So, for now I'll be playing with no music. The music in ROTT really does make the game, so I look forward to trying the next release!

Thank you very much for this port!

If you have purchased another Psp with firmware 2.00 then maybe you should downgrade it to firmware version 1.5 then you will get 100% homebrew / emulation / ports with no restraints, memory issues etc. I am assuming that you still have the 2.60 Psp that you mentioned earlier so you can of course use that for commercial games without worrying about losing homebrew.

Exclamation Same problem

I have 3.40 OE-A. I Put the 2 ROTT folders in GAME150 and I get the ROTT icon and background, but when I selected the game, it went to a black screen, looked like it was gonna load, then it stopped and brought me back to XMB? No error message.

I tried putting the 2 Folders in PSP\GAME, comes up Corrupted Data. Put them in GAME340, one Corrupted Data icon and a ROTT icon w/ background comes up. Selected ROTT icon and this time I got an error message "game could not be started (8002014C).

Also, if I use the ROTT folders from the shareware folder, I can play the demo, but not the full version?

Help, thanks!

Bumping a year and half old thread...

You need to learn your PSP history and how CF have eliminated the need for KXploit. You want the 1.0 EBOOT version of this game to play, if it doesnt work one problem might be that you have it set to 3.40 kernel, instead of 1.5

TA-082 mb, 2.83->3.03-1.5->3.03 OE-A-> 3.10 OE-A-> 3.40 OE-A.

Ok so ver 1.0, and set kernel to 1.5. Thanks for the quick response!
-= Double Post =-
I got Corrupted Data icon when copying EBOOT.PBP and the .rott folder from the shareware 1.0 folder to PSP/GAME/. on kernel 1.5.
