Default iR Shell 1.0 Released!

What is iR Shell?

- It's a PSP shell.
- It's a multi-tasking switcher.
- It's an infra-red universal remote (iR Commander).
- It's a screen snapshot tool.

iR Shell allows you to launch application (UMD games or homebrew) via it's basic shell interface. The current version only multi-task between the launched application and the Shell/iR Commander. You switch task by pressing the the hotkey (Left Trigger+Select). For example, you launched a UMD game from iR Shell, playing through half of it, switch to iR Commander and change a TV channel, switch back to the UMD game and the game will resume at the point where you left.

You can also choose to take screen snapshots on any UMD games or homebrew applications. Unlike other currently available snapshot tools, this one is highly compatible to most UMD games and homebrews. A Bitmap graphics picture viewer is incorporated into the shell. Currently, it only supports 8bit or 24bit color with 480 x 272 resolutions only, ideal for viewing snapshots.

The built-in iR Commander is an Infra-Red Universal Remote Control software. It allows you to control various home appliances and other infra-red based equipments. It has built-in IR codes (Pronto Hex Codes) for over 2000 devices. If you can't find the one you need from the supplied IR codes, you can download additional codes from www.remotecentral.com. It has IR codes for over 6000 equipments. The iR Commander allow user defined remotes via RDF text files. It supports bitmap graphics and key macros.

Future version of iR Shell will incorporate more built-in functions into the shell and allow you to task switch between them. For example, task switch between UMD game / Music Player / Video Player / iR Commander, etc.

If you enjoy using iR Shell, please consider donate any amount of money via Paypal to ahmanhk@hotmail.com to help development.

To download, visit my website at
http://www.ahman.co.nr

WARNING:
The APP View (Application view for /PSP/GAME) only supports standard v1.5 fw naming convention. That is, an application neeeds to have naming like "neogeocd" & "neogeocd%". The corruption icon hidden tricks naming will not work with iR Shell. If you don't want to change the naming convention, you can use the "DIR View" (Directory view) and navigate to your application directory and launch the app manually.

when most first releases come out, people quite often say, this project has a lot of potential in the future...however this project doesn't.
this project won't have it in the future, because it already has it! forget about potential, this has some quite unique features already.
(what i'm saying is meant to sound good!)
however, my only annoyance, is that i cannot find a bush tv pronto code anywhere on the net. this is really the only one i want...
perhaps an idea for the future, to be able to take in the pronto codes from your old remote control?
i know it has been suggested before, and perhaps is being worked on, but it's just an idea for the future, and it will ensure it then works with my stupid television!
good work.
nice contribution!

wow.. i've already dled it and tried it out.. really really good job done on this thing... everything works really well. the only thing this needs is a few more default remotes for big brands (like sony and samsung tvs.) and also a better looking gui.. but im not complaining about the gui, i loved the way how the homebrews were listed very neatly and it was easy to search for the homebrew i wanted to launch...

I havent tried the snapshot function on ridge racer, but it works with rin, thus i dont know how good the quality of the snapshot function is on fast moving games, but it definately works, and very easy to use too..

i havent tried the ir function though, but i like the idea that you can easily switch between homebrew/umd to the shell and back again with a simple keystroke..

this is definately worth front page news, very good job once again. cant wait for the next release
thanks a lot for this excellent

Thanks for the kind word. As for additonal remotes, you'll need to download a separate file from my site "prontocodes10.zip" which can be installed onto your PSP and will provide support for 2000 remote units.

shouldnt there be a way to create a remote for ALL sony tv's?? i saw an app that did that before, and it has worked for every sony tv i've tried..

Ahman, good job on the homebrew/UMD callback , works really fast and efficient, so far i had no problems with it, i used to have problems with the FA++ bootloader but ure's seems to elimanate that problem.

Question: are you going to implement maybe a OS type interface look in the future.

rangedunits, thanks a lot for the donations. In fact, you're the one and only one that donated so far since iR Commander was out. It will give me more incentive to enhance the iR Shell if more people donate.

For the next version, I'm thinking of having a music player incorporated into the shell and play MP3 tracks in background while you're playing games.

Most manufacturers use the same IR codes for similar models of their units. Have you tried any of the Sony TV remote from those 2000 RDFs? I will expect some of them will work with your TV. After you've tested the one that works, you can delete the rest to save space on your MS.

I'll look into it. The face lift may come later after I add more features into the shell.

You don't need to find the exact model. Just try some of Sony TV codes, I'm sure some of them will work with Wega.

Wow, amazing shell. I really really really like it. I would donate it but I'm a 17 year old without a job so i have no money.

I actually like this interface. OS interfaces are nice but this GUI is perfectly fine for me.

this is very very very very strange..............

This hasnt made frontpage... wtf are they doing??? more ppl need to know about this great program..

and i would luv it if you could code an inbuilt media player which would mute out game sounds and play music from you PSP/MUSIC folder while playing a umd... i know something like this was made so that you could listen to music and look at photos on your psp at the same time, but if you could do the same thing with homebrew and umd, that would be great..

too bad im too young and dont hav a job, or else i'd donate a few bucks for sure..

this is the third time im saying this, but once again thanks for this great shell... cant wait to see future versions...

Sorry it took so long to get up on the front page... newsposters are spread a little thin at the moment and I haven't been able to post for the last day and a half. But it's up now, and great work! I'll be using it alot for newsposting and getting snapshots!

This app seems to be the STABLEST back end app out there...

This one actually launches my UMD's and EBOOT's and allows screenshots, without lines in them, and also dosnt cover the screen with blood whilst trying...

All eboots and UMD's return directly to the IR Shell, so it is a true shell. ( I can see Psix trying to get a hold of this technology! )

The only obvious problem, is the DIR function is too powerful, and the APP function is useless ( It might be cuz i renamed the folders. )

Anyway, to get ANYTHING described, done, use DIR mode ( Press Square till you are in DIR View )

BTW the screenies are in ms0:/PSP/SNAPSHOT

GOOD JOB AHman...

well then i think you need the % folders cuz rin works fine with me.. not sure about the others though, but i've already taken a few screenshots in rin, and it works perfectly, even when you quit it, it goes back to irshell

and btw ahman, i think you should incoperate the ability to switch on and off usb mode in your shell, i know it's only a single line of code in lua to turn on the usb, but i could be wrong of course.. just giving my 2 cents worth... :P

You'll need to use the standard application naming convention of 1.5 fw. That is, like "rin" & "rin%". The hidden corruption icon tricks naming doesn't work with iR Shell. Or you can simply use the "DIR View" to launch apps.
