OK creating a nice looking cursor can really make an app - it has to be a .png for great quality and transparency @ small file sizes.
First open up fireworks and either create a graphic like this one or use the attached image:
Make a simple bitmap image of a basic cursor
then click Filters - Bevel and Emboss - Inner Bevel. You will get a rough looking cursor, if you change it from flat to smooth at the top and set the size to about 8, then small adjustments will get it to look great.
Thats all you need to do to create a cursor like this:
Then you go to shadow and glow - drop shadow and set the softness to 1.
I like the distance to be four, it looks quite nice.
Then you just pick a glowing shadow colour and your done (or you can keep black)
