X-Flash

Naw, Arts right ( But his name IS Booster ) Sony only dropped down on him because they had legal ground to stand on, they cant afford to loose to minorities. ( So they call us. <_< )

But alas doing anything with the UMD Tools clearly signifiy the fact you carry them, OR some gaming industry with a legaly obtained copy is corrupting to make you some.

To tell the truth, the simple PMF, whilst cute, dosn't make X-Flash better than it is now, and simply isnt worth the trouble it might come across in the future. :P

Don't get me wrong, X-Flash is great...

Fair enough, but I still see the included original gameboot, font, and wallpapers
as a much bigger issue.

I just thought that if anyone made a deal of it, I can fix it easy so the files
are read from your unmodded PSP.
This would require you to restore the PSP to original every time you upgraded X-Flash
so the new version could get the files.

I view X-Flash containing 1 original wallpaper as a bigger infringement than
a CD full of custom gameboots still.

Atleast all those files are embed in the software, the "Custom" gameboot is so much more illegal than a "distrubutued" wallpaper...

It's not so much the final product, but the means in which you obtained the final product.

Whats more illegal in your opinion?

1. Getting your freely avalible PSP to dump its own publically avalible ( Not Intentional ) firmware onto your memorystick, and you taking ONE of those images to "flash" it back?

2. Illegally obtaining LEAKED software ( Copyright by Sony, under Strict Rights of use. ) and putting your own branded feed's in ( Its not just a video lol. ) and making a "compatible" encoded PMF, which is of Comany Standard ( That is of the standard UMD's would use. ) and then distrubuting the PMF in your application, as viewable!?

IMO 1 is well worth the risk, but 2, its pointless...

You could make ONE tool that "compiles" a "snapshot" of your current fw, then puts it in the SYSTEM folder of ur psp, and XFlash will refer to that from then on...

( I'm going to have to get a clean copy off someone <_< )

But what he says makes sense. Especially Devhook too....Obviously, PSPU turns a blind eye to whats lingering under their nose, whether it be PSP emulator or GBA emulator, they are both legal. As long as they dont come with rom dumps.

Can you edit the MemoryStick In the XMB editor?

well I took the pmf situation to hand and have applied to sony for a real set of umd tools. I proposed to them in an email I sent on Friday, that alot of people would like custom pmf files for select homebrew they use. I never mentioned any names. I also stated that this could be a great way to bring back the umd out of the hole that it is in. Imagine if I get the rights to make and distribute custom pmfs. on a UMD/purchase from the web. That my friends is the way to go with sony. They want something that will generate income for them. If there seems to be a big enough need, maybe they will let me do this. Sometimes if you just explain to those types of people in wording that they understand, well they might just let you do it. I also said to them that people are all about customizaion with their respective psp's. I told them that I too have customized my PSP and will continue to do so. I love X-Flash Art, keep them updates coming. sorry to get off topic there.

I knew that ppl would ask if they can edit the only two items I didn't bother to include :D In fact, I would have bet a lot of money on it.
I think I got tired of converting to hex by that stage.... one day they will be there.

I have given it thought, because having it there is not congruent with the reason
I gave that X-Flash will never contain a graphics library, so I will get rid of it
reguardless of whether I entirely agree on the copyright issue.

If they gave it to you, what would the legit developer who payed thousands of dollars for it say?

I think I read some where that some one edited the PSP info screen, How could I go about doing that?

Anymore text in there destroys strings that are used to report errors.
I didn't want to do that.

Replace the ltn0.pgf file that is already in the XFLASH/Xflash/Modified folder.

Some one updated to 2.80 and it stated

That's the name_plate.png.
It's a picture that appears in the about PSP screen before the encryption
company logos. If he'd resored everything before updating it wouldn't have stayed there,
but he doesn't have kernal access to delete it with 2.80.

How would I flash a new one?

It's under the same option as the wallpapers, so go to that and scroll sideways.
It writes the file called name_plate.png that is in Xflash/Modified.
Replace the sample picture in that folder with your own.

can i chang all the 12 bgs to a diffirent 12 pics??

Ya, you can I think you do it by: Putting the 01 - 12 or putting one image at a time.

Only the hard way.
X-Flash doesn't support indecisiveness :D There should be a stick and a boot.
If you flash 12 different backgrounds on August '06 you are telling yourself that
you know what background you will prefer on July '07.
That's hard to swallow unless they are calendars.

Art, I just played around with X-flash and OMG, Last time I looked at evry option was in 7.0c. I am trully amazed.

Noooo! Art do you think you could take out the 'HOME button exit' feature? My home button is somehow permanently pressed down, so when I start up Xflash, it immediatly exits.

How can you do ANYTHING on your PSP if the HOME button is always pressed?

Well basically the PSP ignores the keypress if it is pressed down before turning it on :P Got lucky there. If I press the NOTE or SCREEN buttons while inside a game, it acts like I pressed the HOME button, same if I put on HOLD then take it off HOLD...weird.
But the button is dead I guess, as its just a thin piece of circuitry, so I'd have to replace that whole thing.

you could open it up and have a looksy! Im willign to bet its just the PCb. And you can buy a replacement for the bottom buttons for about $10 - $15. And you can replace it easily just by opening the PSP and taking off the afceplate, the PCB is easily removable and replaceable. I suggest looking into it. I would never be able ot put up with a stuck button liek that. :x

Anyway, Great work AGAIN Art! Another amazing app!

You gotta love the credits demo! You should release a seperate app that is just a little music player taht displays these great ASCII visuals. Like maybe browsing next a previous songs in the msuic folder with L and R and a pasue button while the crazy visuals go on. I think it would be really cool!

You will have to emulate 1.50 with DevHook, and get someone nice to get u a plugin to kill the use of the HOME button... :P

I will try checking to see if HOME button is pushed down at startup,
and if it is, ignore it for the whole session.
