It's time for a new PiMPy release..
PiMPStreamer, streaming realtime video to your PSP. First of all thanks for all your input.. And for suggesting about some improvements for my ****ty site :icon_wink .. I decided to throw in a little contest, for whoever can make me the pimpiest home page.. ---UPDATE------ Most of the time I spent on incorperating the new PMP MOD v2 changes. This also means that all the SKIN stuff is temporary removed from the release. But this also means that the exitting is now cleanly on the PSP. The new packet structure allows me to support VBR in PiMPStreamer in the near future. To use the new v2 packet format use the psp files included in this release. http://www.geocities.com/****y****1969 Last edited by DickyDick1969; 04-17-2006 at 12:07 AM.. |

Great release! The interface is much more responsive now that you aren't getting the total length of time for each video (you are listening =)) and quit works!
Sound seems to stutter for me now - previously it was really smooth. =( There actually seems to be static in them. I do not get those intermitent pauses anymore though. I think the problems I have previously had were due to VBR.More videos seem to work now. In this release: There seems to be a small bung when navigating to sub folders. There's a huge bright blue area drawn on the screen filling the area left over when there's not enough files to fill the file listings. No biggie. Oh wait, when a sub folder has 1 video in it, PiMP draws a big blue box. If you hold up, you eventually see the 1 file and the ".." and "." files. Good stuff! I think this is a very good release even though the sound has gone down a notch. Last edited by matriculated; 04-16-2006 at 06:17 PM.. |

Hey thanks for this release and it works very well. No stuttering or anything at default 400/128, no more crashes and triangle to quit the movie works. One thing is on my dualcore system, its utilizing both core and using almost 80% of process. Can this be adjust anyway in further release? system running hot heh.
Thanks and keep up this good release. |

Some "minor" bugs here .....
PMP files do NOT show up, you have to rename them all to ".avi" - WHY ????? NONE of my PMP files work, they ALL show up "no fd" and then "pmp_file_open: can´t open stream" Indeed they ALL work PERFECTLY ..... So what is going wrong here ??? |

Great app. A few criticisms.
I have never been able to get this to stream properly, it always stutters. In this recent release I found that if i pause the movie for a little while, it runs smoothly for a few seconds before stuttering again. I also noticed if i paused the movie on my psp, the decoder on the PC would stop too. My question is why is this? Could you make it so the PC continues to convert although the PSP is paused? That way I could pause it a lot at the beginning and then it will run smoother for a longer period of time. Either that or could you increase the buffer? Thanks |

@ lkjhgf206 : I just replied in the comments section of the front page story but...
This application does NOT stream your .pmp files form your hard drive. It converts your .avi files on the fly and streams the converted movie to your psp in full resolution simultaneously. |

LOL thank you
I don´t understand why it doesn´t support pmp files since it bases on Jonnys PMPMod and even plays the pmp files on the stick. Most of my videos are pmp format now and I WONT convert them back to avis again for sure. Second: The streaming server always wants to write a test.avi on drive C: but my drives are H: and I: - so I use a CompactFlash Card now and renamed drive to C:, but there should be an option to set an alternative drive for this streaming file "test.avi". Third I can not watch 4:3 sources in 4:3 they are always stretched even if I type in 4:3 - Fourth this stutters like hell even with 100kbit / 64kbit and 1/2 frames..... maybe this is because of using the CompactFlash Card as Drive C: but I can´t imagine..... |

I think the reason this doesn't support the streaming of PMP files is because this is generally for the users who don't want to keep converting their movie files to make them compatible with the PSP, and so it tries to eliminate the need for converting and keeping your movie files as .pmp files on your hard drive, because that would pretty much make them inaccessible on the pc if you only kept a .pmp copy.
Secondly, this is still a beta version of this application, ****y****1969, the developer, has only been working on it for a few weeks, and he has done a great deal of work into creating such an application for the PSP. Because of this if you kindly bring the problem about the C:\test.avi file to his attention hopefully he can do something about it for a future release ![]() Thirdly, maybe its a bug, never tried 4:3 and finally, people are getting varied results using PiMPStreamer, some have playback almost flawless, some have severe stuttering and buffer problems. I suppose it depends on your wireless connection bandwidth, distance from router, etc but it also depends on your cpu's capabilities to convert the file quickly enough to stream to the PSP seemlessly. either way, I'm sure future releases will become more stable, and problems with buffers and so on will be ironed out I'm sure ![]() hope it helps |

@aiiihd
My router is not even half a meter in front of me, I´m using a high-end system..... no matter this is free and I respect this work a lot, even if it´s not working here to enjoy..... But I really would say he should implement pmp support. |

Hi ****y****1969, PiMPStreamer just keeps getting better and better! Thanks for continuing to update and develop your amazing app!
I hope you dont mind my following feedback and suggestions... Version 0.3 seems to be much more stable than 0.28, great stuff, i can open a lot more files and a lot less crashes now, nice clean exit now too! I've noticed that when a file sometimes can't be opened properly and the PSP freezes, that theres then an error message displayed on the PC. Until the 'OK' on the error message is manually clicked It seems the user cannot use the PSP to begin streaming any other files. I was thinking then, would it be at all possible to perhaps add an option to have the server automatically restart itself, or auto ok any errors and just log them whenever one is encountered, rather than just displaying a message and then waiting for a response? Just so that the user does not have to keep returning to the PC to OK errors before being able to continue streaming, as this seems to kinda defeat the purpose of the wifi convenience. Also would it be possible to be able to adjust the servers settings from the PSP itself? Perhaps to adjust bitrates. Again, kudos for working on this, 3 kids aint easy to juggle! I hope you can possibly get some dev help if you're open to the idea to make things a bit easier

This app looks really cool, And I've been trying to get it working since I first found it. But on every version I keep geting the same error. I change the IP address in the config file, and yes it is the right IP address, it is exactly the same as it is in my cmd prompt when I type ipconfig, and then of course with the 3333 port after it. I've also opened up port 3333 in my router settings. However, when I try to start up the program I've een getting the following error: "Current Stream directory: stream_io_listdir: couldn't connect to sever" And now with this version, I am also getting "ms0:/PSP/VIDEO directory not found or empty" or something like that, but I dont think thats my main problem because I havent gotten that before this version.
And one more thing that I've noticed is that sometimes when I try to run the program, It copmletely resets my internet connection on my PC, my messenger shuts off, my browser stops working, and it says I am no longer connected to the internet, but this only happens after I try running pimpstreamer. I've succesful used portable VNC before, which I would think uses the same sort of concept to connect the PC with the PSP, and I've never had any problems with that. Anyone got any ideas? |

@s0m3oNe: Regarding the "ms0:/PSP/VIDEO directory not found", create the PSP/VIDEO folder and place a dummy PMP file in there as a place holder. That will fix the problem.
To create a dummy PMP, create a text file and File > Save as.. > Dummy.PMP
