Default Official DDS:AP Thread [LUA] [2.6 tested]

    Hey everyone!

After a long time away I figured it's time to come back and start working again! Those of you who remember me may have realized that I sort of up and disappeared; this was due to several important family issues that needed to be taken care of. Enough of that though, let's get to the goodies :P.

I've started working on a new battle RPG (think Final Fantasy Tactics), and the first order of business was seeing if I could get the isometric map system working. Well, obviously, I have.

I know, my textures are crap, but hey, give me a break, I'm a programmer!

In any case, I'm releasing the code to this version ONLY NOW (and possibly to the full map system when it's done ... see the lua script for more details on what will be in that), and nothing else until the game is completely done.

I'm releasing it so those of you who want to make isometric map systems have a building block to work off of. All I ask is that if you use this to help you learn, give credit where credit is due :P.

To test this out (I've only tested on 2.6), simply copy the DDS folder to your PSP\GAME\ folder and load it up as you would any other homebrew. If that fails, simply browse to the script.lua file from within Lowser.
    ----------

    More info about the game:

This game is going to be a Turn Based Battle RPG, ala Final Fantasy Tactics. The main proponent of this game is the card system, which will allow you to collect and create cards that allow you to cast spells, summon creatures, etc... This is in addition to your normal physical and weapon based attacks. That should suffice for now....

In addition, I'm looking for graphic designers who can create isometric tiles (land, buildings, etc...) , character sprites, cards for the above, and user interface designers. If you would like to help, post here or PM me.

Thanks everyone, good luck and have fun! :Punk:

Also feel feel free to take the DDS:AP banner from my signature below and use it in your own signature to show your support for this project! I'll have some newer better looking ones soon :).

It certainly will be better in later releases :P.

I've begun work on improving the file format and coming up with a proper map editor (written in C#).

This also reminds me that I will need people to design maps when time comes. Any takers?

Hehe, they're a great way to be quick and informative. Very good idea :).

I've been working some more on the map system. I'll decide whether or not to implement scrolling very soon.

Lol, I thought this was in C when I first saw it.. then I saw it was in lua then thought it used the GE. Then I saw it just blits images. Cool concept. I think it would be REALLY cool if you got the Gu. and the Gum. functions to draw it, REAL 3D. If you ever decide to do this, take out the blending functions from the example and change the draw type, shine got it messed up in the example. (Thats what took me the longest to get the GE working for wario ware)

    hey, what's up?

That's a nice start on a iso engine B0xx0r. Maybe we could work together. I am currently making a tactics game as my final gr 12 programming project and i was wondering if maybe you, and some other people here could help me port it to the PSP

(I know i've posted these before, but)
Here are some screens of what i've accomplished so far...

I can make an .exe file available to anyone who asks, and a copy of the source code to anyone that's serious about working with me.

Your screens certainly look great, but right now I'm not going to need any more than 1 programmer. If you ever have questions though, feel free to shoot me a PM :).

Yup, yours. I've started working on this project before for different platforms, but never considered the PSP. Your project made me think of starting it again :).

Just an update. Things are starting to look better :P

I've started working some more on the map format, meaning full support for tilesets in maps, etc... Soon enough there should be layers and possibly a zoom function with scrolling. Not sure about that one yet.
