Here's the latest update for PME. It contains quite a few corrections and additions regarding the loading and generation of beats. One limitation that is imposed however is that you can't throw in amazingly high frequencies(1000 seems to work, sometimes). I'm not sure why this is, but it shouldn't affect most presets(bar the sinus one, sorry!).
A few changes with the preset file format:
This example will produce two voices, one being 100hz with a 3hz beat(100% volume), and the other being a channel of white noise(50% volume). The frequency of the beat for the first voice added is inreased over 60s to 12 hz.
The format of the V preference is now as follows: V(base frequency) (beat frequency) (beat type 0=empty 1=beat 2=white noise) (volume 0-8000)
Notice that we add the channel of white noise on the next available channel, all on its own. Due to the random nature of white noise mixing it with a beat will leave the beat undectectable. I'm looking into a more efficient way of mixing, but for now this is one restraint that can't be avoided(if we want to keep all 8 voices/6 voices 1 white noise).
Another addition is the L preference, which determines the length of the sample, and if it should loop or not: L(length) (loop 0=false 1=true)
NOTE:V preferences are processed in pairs for mixing, which is why you need to pad the first half of the pair containing the white noise generator.
And here is the example preset:
This is the test preset, you can put your description here! It will last 60 seconds, and will NOT loop(L60 0)
L60 0
V200 10 1 8000
V0 0 0 8000
V0 0 0 2000
V0 0 2 2000
T0 0 60 100 12
Screenshot:

There may be a few flaws around, but it should work perfectly with all of the presets provided with this bundle. If you find an error could you please report it here :).
Enjoy!
edit: ok, I seem to of broken the white noise somewhere along the line. I'll get it patched up.
edit2: the white noise is sorted :)Last edited by Psilocybeing; 05-01-2006 at 12:49 PM.

The latest version doesnīt work on my 2.6 PSP. The previous versions worked perfectly. Now when I try to start the program with eLoader Bock I get a black screen and my psp turns off after a few seconds. Tried 3 times now with same result. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Suggestions/ideas? Thanx in advance ;)

Strange, I'm still running in user mode, still using 4 channels that are unassigned upon startup. I really can't think what I've added that might of broken it for 2.6 users

edit: have you deleted any old presets you might have? it shouldn't be a problem, but just incase the loading of an old preset format is messing it up(missing fields etc, null floats being read in)
edit2: I had debug build on, if that would affect anything, although I doubt it. Here's a recompiled copy without debugLast edited by Psilocybeing; 05-01-2006 at 12:50 PM.

I haven't tried it as of yet give me a few min then I'll post back since I have 2.6 as well
edit:
I have no probs here...working okay but I'm finding the volume level is low as from before I could hear the sound without my headphones...I have to place the psp right up to my ear but all is working..Last edited by CSIpheonix; 05-01-2006 at 09:02 AM.

how many voices can you have with pme cause one of the presets on bwg has 9 voices??
-
05-01-2006, 09:19 AM #130
It can only have 8 at the moment, I'm trying to find out if it is possible to keep the quality of each wave when mixing more than a couple together. If I figure it out we should be able to have 16 or more.

sounds good..they have a preset of a cat purring and I'd like to convert that...I'm still trying to convert the sounds...but still having probs reading your guide on page 7...I understand how to place the freq and the beats but sometimes I have 5 timers under one voice so would that mean I would have one big giant line and also....I'll try the preset I've asked you to do for me..on one of the voices there are 2 freq..so how would I go about that??? I'm going to try and see if I can get the info for that preset I'd like to to do...

Itīs really strange... all my other homebrew still works fine, but I canīt get your prog working (anymore). Tried downloading it again, removing it and putting it on my psp several times, turning on and off my psp etc...nothing seem to work, just black screen and then turning off

I've solved the volume reduction problem, it was a simple issue with my audio mixing.
Hmm: I'm going to compile a copy with the description box removed, to see if it is that which is causing the problem, as that's really the only large addition since the last version.
In the mean time, here's 0105_3!
I plugged it into my 120w amp, and man oh man, the windows were shaking ;)

Many timers on the same channel can be lined up to form one large chain of timers, yeah.

The three graphs you see are for beat frequency, base frequency, and volume. Currently volume alteration is not available with the timers, so slowly changing the volume is not an option yet. Soon :)
NOTE: volume is now set as a percentage, not as a whole value (0-100 instead of 0-4000).

hey Psilocy i want to thankyou for making such a different kind of psp app. I told my mom about this and she was suprised, she has been trying to get me to use some other listening thing for awhile but i never really listen to her :dj:
this is definatly something comparable to that ds app for memory and you taking the time to port this shows that 'video games' can be used for more than entertainment. i congradulate you for being a pioneer in help/edutainment.
thankyou sir ;)

Gotta have sinus cure preset, Psilocybeing, can you add it so I can download it? Your guide on page 7 is very confusing, but I did tried it and it didn't sound right.
-
05-01-2006, 03:43 PM #138
The sinus preset wasn't working when I tried to make it. The frequencies used just threw off the entire sampling, I don't know why
. For the time being I don't know if it can create the sinus preset, sorry.

Oh yes I almost forgot, how's your research on the mosquito repellent preset, Psilocybeing?
-
05-01-2006, 04:30 PM #141
From what I've read they don't seem to have much, if any measurable affect on mosquitos. The range needed is around 30khz aswell, which is out of range of PME at the moment. I'm not sure why it's having trouble with tones with high frequencies.
edit: as far as simulating the wingbeats of a dragonfly goes, I couldn't find any data regarding that either(frequency/modulation etc)

timer?
hey, i'm just wondering if you can add a timer like thing that can stop the prog so that it doesn't go on forever even after i fall asleep? It drained quite a lot of batteries when I just fall asleep while listening and the psp doesn't auto shut down.
thanks

I have to mention that the Freedom Flight preset is distorted in the latest build (0105_3), hope it can be fixed since I like that one.
Since this is my first post, great job Psilocybeing. Thanks to your homebrew app I got introduced to BWG and I'm having a lot of fun with it and find it immensly intruiging. Especially helping me to stay focused on my studying during my final exams now.
Can't thank you enough :)

I was thinking of adding something like that, I don't know if there is a poweroff function in the SDK though. I'll check it out.

You can always delay your program and then let it execute some bad code that will crash and then turn off your psp. It's not very nice and clean, but it must be the easiest way to do it. From my knowledge of the sdk there is no "scePowerOff" ;) or something similar built in.

That's the only way I could possibly think of, forcibly causing an exception using one of badcode crash examples from the SDK without a handler installed ;). I just hope crashing the entire program won't affect the tone. Just imagine that, right at the end of a relaxing preset and then BAM, an earfull of static :P
edit: I also remember setting a certain register to 0 causes the PSP to power off after 10 seconds or so. I'll see if I can find the thread on ps2dev.Code:if(pad.Buttons & PSP_CTRL_CIRCLE) { /* Cause a bus error */ _sw(0, 0); } if(pad.Buttons & PSP_CTRL_CROSS) { /* Cause a break exception */ asm( "break\r\n" ); }
edit2: aha, here we are: http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.p...81f0585ac6c7c0
edit3: I think the distortion issue is due to the math I was using presuming I'm using an unsigned number. The buffers that hold the sine waves are signed, so I'm going to try shifting the two input waves by half of the maximum position(+32767), calculate based on an unsigned basis, then shift the values back down into the signed integer(-32767).Posted by: chrismulhearn
After loading up homebrew on 1.5 firmware, the cp0 status register is
CP0 $12 = 0x20008601
Bit 0 enables/disables all interrupts. If you disable all interrupts,
CP0 $12 = 0x20008600
the PSP will only continue to operate for about 10 more seconds before powering down completely.Last edited by Psilocybeing; 05-02-2006 at 07:04 AM.

Ok, this time I hope I've got the distortion down. I've changed my method for combining the sine waves and most of the distortion seems to of gone(I'm still getting some, but I hope that is due to my earphones). Here is the updated version, sorry for so many of them but I want to get it right, and I just don't have the equipment to test it to its full potential :).
Oh, and here is a draft for a new style ;)

thanx for this great app
Hi Psylo,
firts I have to thank you for this wonderful program. Simple, useful and long overdue. Thanxalot!
Unfortunatly i canītīuse the may-builds on my 1.5 psp. (I have no idea what i am doing wrong... it always stops loading when the screen goes black after the splash-screen) The 2904-build works great though (no volume-issue ..) but of cause i canīt use the new presets ...
A nice feature for a next release would be a backgroundimage (or visualisaton) for each preset (like for some iso-loader) and of cause background-mp3s.
Again, thanx for this and looking forward to the next update,
hackePeter
