Rofl, wasnt it clearly stated the psp had a potential cpu of 333, and it confused people as to why sony didn't deliver the full power at once, they must have had things in store.
But as for overclocking to 400 etc, that would involve opening your psp, and perhaps stacking the cpu's or something, which is not very "simple" and then ya gotta double the power input, increaing the battery drain and heat. BTW has anyone noticed when you use WIFI functions with the PSP AC addapter plugged in, the battery will automaticly stop "charging" because allowing it to continue charging could allow a meltdown of the WIFI hardware, as we already know, gets very hot... ( My plans for psp torture down the drain... )

You are asking about things that just cant be done.
Think about it this way, you have a car and it has one of those computer chips that restricts the HP, now you do the illegal thing and revert the controles... great more HP, but now you want more, you cant just tell the box you want more, it cant do that. you have to add better parts to the engine to make it more powerfull... I hope you understand... |

There's only so much you can do with software to anything before you have to start hacking the hardware and that's where things get dicey.

Yeah, Sony. Anything with Sony written on it is a custom chip.
The Emotion Engine and vector units in the PS2 are good examples. Quote:

ok thanks.
does anyone have any idea if the architecture of the psp's processor is similar to any other mobile device? ..Maybe like a sony palm hangheld or something? and this is kind of a noob question but i honestly did forget after leaving the scene for a while, is the GPU (the gfx card..of sorts) combined in the same chip as the CPU on the psp? |

Here's some good info with block diagrams, cpu and gpu specs, etc... that Sony released back in 2004 in a presentation.
It seems that it is a hardware limitation indeed, to reach frequencies beyond 333/166. Btw, if you look really closely at the pictures of the slides, you'll notice 'ghostings' of other slides not shown on the website. I'd really like to know what information was given on those in regards for a more detailed explanation on how the PSP works...interesting stuff tho. |
