Default How's the serial port progress going?

I remember there was a lot (tons?) of speculation a month or so ago that someone had cracked into the PSP's serial port and thus was able to exploit it with this hack. Was there any truth to this? And, what is the progress on this WIP hack?

Have you seen what psplink can do? It can communicate through the serial.

No, that is legit.
There are SDK samples for serial, and a serial terminal comes with Lowser,
and both require an interface like this.
What is there to progress?

Possibly flashing through the serial port as some have speculated

I dont think the point was to make a remote on the computer, but more of learning about it. A remote on the computer is very pointless, but its little things like this that lead to big things such as serial communication with psplink.

Thats what I mean. The people at ps2dev think that Sony reflashes the bricked PSPs with the serial.

That's been going around for a while. No one has made any progress with it though.

Let me straighten things out here.

That little hole next to the headphone jack is the "serial port" (k, we got that down.) Serial ports are used on computers, but are becoming more and more obsolete because of USB. They are still used frequently with computer monitors and printers. That jack, if you have a compatible wire, can be connected to a PC or a PSP dev kit. It is believed by some that the serial port is the way Sony flashes PSPs sent to them. The good thing about serial hacking is that it works whether the PSP is on or off, which means that a bricked PSP could be flashed back to life, or any PSP could change to/from any version. You can not buy these cords at the store--I believe that they only come with the dev kit, not completely sure. Even the dev kit has a serial port on the front of it, further proving the flashing theory.

So there.

Have any of you seen a devkit for real? I have. My mom's boyfriend is the lead programming for the sms for psp and is currently working on over the hedge for the psp. Yeah, it's pretty cool, but in his office he has a dev kit. :P
But the point is, devkits don't come with the equipment to flash the psp, because sont is so tight developers have to use like 1.00 to make games. So yeah. They don't any access to umds and such, so getting the umd devkit seems kinda weird. And I know for a fact that they don't can't flash the psp to a lower firmware version. So even if you got access to a devkit, you couldn't flash the psp, because sony's not giving the technology to the devolpers.

Sony is crazy, they don't even trust developers.

The worst part is my mom is always complaining about him complaining about not having access to umd's and such. Sont's anti homebrew thing is totally affecting devolpers. Like how they can't have higher firmware versions (he said they could have some sort of network if they could) and not allowing them access to umd's(if they could access umds, they could make faster games, but they have to use memcards, which load way faster then umds)

i wish we knew someone who was a sony insider. Who knew excatly how to reflash a psp and how to sign eboots. He could become a psp god if he created a "sign your own eboot" program. Alas, reality check

we could, but chances are we'de have to make a lot of trips to radio shack to even make a little bit of progress. we'de probably have to install the port on our comps, so we'de need to get that, which is next to impossible. Then we'de need to make or get a connector, which is also next to impossible. But if we get those two things done, it would be real easy to flash our psp's. Then I could finally have a 1.50!!!!(instead of the gay no kernal access 2.60)

Okay, so let's make an agenda here. xD
1. Successful link a PSP to a PC from a serial port.
2. Enter the PSP's BIOS with #1 as a transfer method.
3. Attempt to reflash/mod the firmware.

The program is downloadable that sends the pspremote commands, and the actual pspremote has the connector.

And are you serious about your mom's boyfriend having the official SDK?
