iR Shell 1.6 Released
iR Shell 1.6 Released
If listening to your favorite mp3s while playing UMD Games/homebrews isn't enough for you, you can now stream any files via WiFI or USB to any of your favorite homebrews. Imagine having your whole mp3, movie & photo database on your PC and stream them real time to your PSP via WiFi or USB for unlimited storage and enjoyment. You don't like to convert your movies to PMP format? How about streaming your MP4 movies to Sony's XMB movie player? Having too much fun and can't stop playing your PSP? Well, you can setup an alarm to remind you stop playing. Your favorite shell now gives you all these features at your fingertip, plus a lot more.
Here is a highlight of the new features. For a complete list, refer to the README.TXT for details:
- You can browse your PC harddisk, DVDROM or any other PC storage devices from your PSP via infrastructure WiFi or USB connection and stream files to your homebrew applications. You can even install PSP homebrews on your PC harddisk and launch them on your PSP, just like a huge virtual Memory Stick. 200GB memory stick is now a reality!
- You can open files directly with a single click via iR Shell file browser, such as PMP movies, PMF movies, Atrac3s, mp3s, photos, text files, PDF files, ZIPs, RARs, etc. These files can reside on your Memory Stick or even on your PC storage device.
- Launching XMB within iR Shell which allows you to use all features of XMB, plus taking snapshot of it or UMD Video.
- Alarm clock to remind you important appointments.
- Low battery voice warning to remind you to recharge your battery before it drys up.
Special thanks to:
- Tyranid for making usbhostfs for PSPLINK.
- Dark Alex for making nethostfs.
- AnonymousTipster for developing the ZIP & RAR Unarchiver Plugin for iR Shell.
- StoneCut for being my favorite beta tester.
- Skydew for providing the new Help image files.
- Triable for making various nice graphics for iR Shell.
- Rangedunits for supplying a free hosting service.
- all original plugin authors.
- all iR Shell beta testers for providing valuable suggestions & counterless hours of testing.
Visit my homepage and follow the instructions to download and install.
[UPDATE]
The nethostfs for Windows & Linux has been updated to take a directory as an argument. For example, the following will allow you to access all drives in your PC. The original usbhostfs already allows directory as argument. If not given, the current directory where you start nethostfs or usbhostfs will be used as the root for your PSP.
Make sure your slash is the normal slash '/', not back-slash '\'.Code:nethostfs /cygdrive
[UPDATE 2, June 24]
The server application usbhostfs & nethostfs have been updated to solve the bug which has caused the directory blank out if there is any file with special characters. Visit my homepage to download the version for your PC server.

I get to have AhMan's babies! Ha! And he's not morman so I WIN!
Kick anus, been waiting for this... So let me get this straight... The opposite of PSPLink feature (use the PC as a memory stick will mount your HDD as ms0:/? Like that DAXSO thing? If so Im a happy camper!
Oh and i got the 3rd post in a soon to be over 500 post thread just so's you know...
Oh and does this come with preloaded plugins?
Dev Question:
AhMan, say I was making a plugin, what buffer is used to store the filepath, name and all? Is it the argv[1] since almost everyone knows of it as an optional argument in the main program? Thanks for the answers.
...at what speed must I live.. to be able to see you again?...

Yes, you can mount your PC harddisk, CDROMs, DVDROMS, etc, to your PSP via WiFi or USB. It will appear as nethost0: or usbhost0:. You can also enable the redirection, then it will become ms0:. The original ms0: (memory stick) will become ms1:. Don't forget to thank Tyranid & Dark Alex for making the usb & wifi host file system in the first place.

You can place them anywhere you want. The directory where you've placed them will become the root directory for your PSP.

For USB, you'll need to install the USB drivers in the "DRIVER" folder of the usbhostfs_PC_Win.zip package. You'll be prompt to install driver by Windows when you've enabled the usbhostfs on your PSP. To enable usbhostfs0, simply choose it under "DIR View" or press "Left Trigger + Analog UP".

I put a Wifi Nethost Connection and viewing tutorial up already :-)
Without your explanation AhMan, you should really have something to do about settingthe local machines IP address somewhere.... I thought it accepted DHCP, then i tried Static, just to find out to edit the defualt IP address provided.... you silly goose.

It accepts DHCP or static. The IP address in iR Configurator is your PC Host IP address.

If it's asking USB driver, you can choose the directory where you've unzipped the USB drivers from the usbhostfs_PC_Win.zip. If it's asking you for Windows CD, you may need to provide it to install drivers, but I think most likely it's the first case.

So you'll only need install the nethostfs drivers on the PC once? Then you can just connect to a hotspot of your choise and browse your PC?? (if it's on of course) Does that work? Anyway, awsome work ahman!
btw. I got 4 harddrives on my PC. Is it possible to stream them all??Last edited by SodR; 06-22-2006 at 02:20 AM.

Actually, the nethostfs doesn't contain any installable drivers, only the USB version has. For the nethostfs, you'll need to start the nethostfs.exe server application. If you don't shut it down, you can connect to your PC from anywhere, anytime, even via a hotspot, provided you have configured your firewall to allow TCP port 7513 access. Security maybe a concern if you open up your network port as others may be able to use their PSP to access your PC network.

The source code for nethostfs is posted in my plugin forum. Below is the direct link. BTW, I'll modify it later tonite so that you can access all drives without installing cygwin.

Awesome!!!
But I have a question, why is that with iR shell 1.5, if I try to launch SNES9xTYL 0.4.2ME, it goes to a white screen, and nothing happens? My music stops playing, and I have to hold up the power button, to turn the PSP off. I haven't tried it with this one, (yet) but I would like to know why.

Might just be due to the fact that it was specially coded for 2.00+, try the standard version for 1.50, should run faster anyways ;).

I can't get the USB host thing to work, I installed the drivers, but in iR Shell it says: Error: Can't connect to USB host.
EDIT: nevermind, got it working.Last edited by Destructo; 06-22-2006 at 03:45 AM.
