Default [Release] Eternal Rest Map Editor

Hi, while working on Eternal Rest I decided it would be alot easier to make a map editor instead of making each map by hand. (Putting a bunch of numbers in a text file) So, I made this map editor, it is not much but it works for me.

I have only tested this on 1.5, but I have also included the 2.x eboot if anyone would like to give it a try.

The controls are very different from most apps so make sure your read Instructions.txt in the rar file!

The only thing that is limited on this editor is that you can only save 1 map at a time. If you have a map you like that is already saved, you will have to rename it on your computer to save another and not overwrite it!

Hope you enjoy this. If you make any maps you can post the file's contents in this thread. If you really want to, you can use this for your own game, just be sure to tell me first!

EDIT: Haha, I forgot the link, here it is: http://www.ravineproductions.com/PSP...edRPG/ERME.rar

You if you like, but I don't have a tileset for it yet. You can either make one or get it from Campbell_FF.

No, I kinda meant it as an unspoken rule... You don't usually insult someone in the presence of their friend now do you?

@Master Inuyasha: The map looks cool. I know there arn't really that many tiles to work with, but when I get an update from Campbell_FF everyone will have a bit more to work with.

Very nice, indeed!
It would be really sweet if usb will remain enabled, so the map.txt file could be moved / replaced in realtime...

Hey all!

I fixed a small error in the Tileset, if you noticed there was a little line in the corner of the turns in the path, also I added the two other turning directions, So please replace your media folder with this one, I have done everything that needed to be fixed, and you can go ahead and use these....

When I get back home I will finish the rest of the sand tiles, and probobly change the border between sand and grass....make it a bit more natural. I will also work on the water tiles and start making landscape opjects and allthat stuff!

Thanks,

Dan

Great! I can make better maps! Also, whoever made the map editor, make it so you can make maps bigger than the psp screne, but I guess then youll have to do scrolling...

BTW, I get back on the 5th of July, so you will have more tiles soon there after....

And about the map system, I think we might use a system where when you reach the edge of the screen it moves to another section.

Like this perhaps:
.....1.......2......3.... ..4......5.....
1|____|____|____|____|___ _|

2|____|____|____|____|___ _|

3|____|____|____|____|___ _|

4|____|____|____|____|___ _|

5|____|____|____|____|___ _|

Where each "|____|" Represents one of the "Maps" you create in the editor.

This would create a large area that could be expanded upon as progress on the game continues.

We could almost make releases in chapters of an ongoing Saga. That way you would not have to wait until the game(storyline wise) is complete...because I can assume that this game will be a ways off of a release with the full battle system, weapons system, and inventory system, not to mention the storyline and "quests" that need to be finished and implemented into the game...

None of what I said is final or even what is going to happen, this all came from me, I thought it all up as I was typing it, so Ravine has the final word considering he is coding this.

I also have drawn up some concept art of the main character...and I did a quick sketch of what the world might look like from a topographical standpoint. So I can scan those up when I get back. If there is anything else anyone can think of that I can do while I am in wyoming drop me a PM or post it here, and I will try to get it started or even done. Anything that is not like Photoshop stuff, I installed gimpSHOP to fix the tiles real quick, but the computer I am on is on the greatest for graphics....Lol it is a Pentium 2.8mhz, but with only 384 mb of ram.........kinda bottlenecks the processor.

So if you need help with the story Vaza, or have idea's for the town layouts that you can sketch up, I might be able to do some concept art of 'em in my spare time here.

Yeah, Campbell_FF is right, that is how the map is going to work.

Also, Master Inuyasha, I don't need to make it larger because each map is only the size of the screen. The maps will work as Campbell_FF said, maybe a few changes.

For everyone that is useing Campbell_FF's edited tileset, download this and replace those tiles otherwise the program wont run. For some reason it won't load the tiles correctly because they are not 32x32 ( som of the tiles got moved over 2 pixels, causing there to be two extra pixels )

Tileset attached.

Updated the map editor. Works alot better now, a few bugs fixed and a couple of annoying features changed. You can download the new version from the same link in the first post or be lazy and click the same link right here: http://www.ravineproductions.com/PSP...edRPG/ERME.rar

Hope you enjoy!
