Renown homebrew author, Dark_AleX, released an experimental downgrader yesterday which we refrained from posting as it reportedly bricked many PSPs. Today Dark_AleX has released the Downgrader Test v0.2 source code - no binaries, no accidental bricking! This is strictly for the purpose of developers to analyze and advance on for the possibilty of a stable 2.50/2.60 downgrader. Until then, sit tight - don’t try and downgrade your PSP just yet.

Quoted from the readme.txt:

The downdater is mostly confirmed not to work. I update a slightly modified source code. It should be relatively more secure. I don’t provide the binaries.

I found two glitches in the code:

1) The restart function… Originally it was intended for a restart, but it did nothing, making possible that if some premature error before doing the real thing failed to continue the real downdate process. Now it will cause an on-purpose exception (this only will happen either at the begginiing before the unsecure code begins or at the end, when all is finished)

2) Now I’ve re-assigned the flash device after the logical format. Probably more secure.

But i dont wanna downgrade if we can get kernel mode on 2.6, im holding out for kernel mode which is 9000% safer than downgrading at any rate, this Dark_AleX guy is a lil bit ahead of his time, why downgrade if u get the same stuff on 2.6, I dont see why someone would risk it.

because some people hate having to run GTA to have homebrew im one of them but if devhook runs on 2.5+ im willing to upgrade.....

I updated to 2.7 because I hated having to run homebrew through GTA. It's absoluely ****.

its not that bad but i wont minde once we get kernel working

I really hope a developer gets a hold of this source and makes it usable. But it would be terrible if it didnt work with factory 2.5/2.6 psp cuz thats me!!!

It's entirely possible that you won't have to run GTA but only one time, and then you will have full 1.0 capabilities, with no kxploit.

Even 1.5 can't get that so easily, and a lot of software is still not kxploited, and most psp users are too dumb to kxploit it themselves. Which we all know is the truth.

most software is now kxploited, and i would think 1.5ers know how to use seipsptool, weve done it since the begining,,

and 1.5 can use 1.0 eboots,, its called the nokxploit,,

But like I said, they can't get it so easily, because the majority don't use that, and even then it goes away after a powerdown.

And I honestly think that most people wouldn't know how to use that tool, and also that tool is not cross platform, which means that not everybody can use it even if they knew how.

But even so, a 2.6 with 1.0 capabilities > a 1.5 in every way, including the possibility of no need for a kxploit, so we really don't even NEED a downgrader anyway, because what would be the point of taking the HUGE risk of downgrading if everything that 1.5 can do 2.6 can do also, and more?

no kxploit is done in ram (I believe) so you would have to launch gta every time you restart your psp.

I beleive they are trying to find a way to patch the flash so even if you do reboot you still will have 1.0 homebrew.

........Are you stupid? How would you run homebrew on 2.01+ without GTA? Kernal does not mean we can run it through the GAME section like 1.5......

We may be able to patch something by running GTA once every time you restart your psp....then run it through old conventional ways. Who knows.
