I'm making a metal gear solid game, and is it true you arent aloud to use the names of any characters, or make the sprite look like them...

eh... its ilegal but no one cares.....

You can not use the same name as the game, you can not use the same sprites or graphics as the game without proper permission. You can however use sprites that look like them, and about the character's names, it various from game to game.

For more information on Copyright infringing stuff see this sticky - Copyright Infringing stuff will not make the PSPU Frontpage.

And if you make your own sprites that look like the characters, its fine.
