Okay, so I gave it a shot. But, when i try to "auto load" devhook, it freezes right at the begining. Am I supposed to change something?
EDIT: Well, it works now, maybe it was because I had an older version of DevHook.

I heard about the thing in the post above, has anybody actually done it? Is it safe? Is it worth it? If so, can anybody help me with it?
Can someone tell me how to use the recovery mode? I cant find any tutorials on it, and my psp is basically bricked. The problem is when my psp boots I get a blue scree with different languages, it says 'Settings Information is corrupted. Press the 0 button to repair and restore to default settings' so I hit 0 and it restarts, then i get the same screen. It took me a long time to get to recovery mode, cause it says to flick the hold switch, but it didnt work, so I got into recovery mode by holding L+R while booting. Anywhome, so once I get into recovery mode, what do I do?
To use recovery mode, you either:
1. Hold L at startup
2. Put the HOLD switch on at startup
He asked what to do IN recovery mode, not how to get TO it... :p
I personally dont use custom firmware, but saying its basically bricked would make me want to think of getting it back to original 1.5 then reinstalling hte firmware. Im sure there is an option somewhere with it...
@Arza, I know what the instructions say to get into it, but the only way for me to get into it is by booting while holding L+R, I dont know why. But I have 4 different options in recovery mode, and I dont know what to do to get my psp back on track, or whatever one would do if there psp was bricked, since mine is close to that I would say.
the best way ive found to recover the psp using the custom firmware is to sselect the usb mode option to connect to a pc. then you are able to put a 2.0 update eboot into a folder called UPDATE in your game folder. then you can simply go to "recovery menu" and select "start update EBOOT" now you have the chance to update to 2.0 and then downgrade back to a fresh firmware.
Okay cool thanks. Ill give it a shot.
EDIT: If I am using the update eboot thing, when I go to downgrade back to 1.50 do I have to do that overflow.tif thing in the photo folder? And also couldnt I just use the "update eboot" thing in the recovery menu to flash a 1.50 firmware, thus not having to downgrade? Or is it safer doing the downgrade?
In the recovery menu, there shoud be an option to flash the 1.00 index.dat. If you do that, then you can run the 1.5 update EBOOT and have 1.5. And you won't have to downgrade.
Oh swigginess. Could you give me a little more detail? I just dont want to completely kill my psp. I just click X on flash index, then I click x on flash eboot after I put eboot in the update folder in game right?
The solution for you for the future is to not write custom fonts to flash0 :) And yes, that should be all you need to do.
Okay, thank you. I thought that custom fonts were safe. I used the program flashmod to do it. Darn and I really liked my Diablo font too.
You can still use custom font, gameboots, backgrounds, etc. Just make sure you have the custom firmware installed. That's what it's for.
Yeah, that was half the reason I installed it in the first place, after I heard of the potential recover from brick option. Anywhom, thank you for all the help, no one else has bothered to help me. Well, time to go take my chances.

Last question, is it safe to use x-flash with this to change boot screens and also to flash devhook to it? I read somewhere that flashing too much can cause damage, and that flashing devhook while using custom firmware can cause damage.
Flashing devhook? What? No, that can't damage anything.
Also, you can still use custom fonts; just use our FontHacker program. It reads the fonts from the memory stick instead of from flash0, so you can't brick/semi-brick your PSP with it.
I was reading about your font hacker program, I believe I will try it, last time I used flashmod to flash the fonts onto my psp. I thought it was devhook that screwed me last time because I was trying to flash it to flash0 and such and I kept getting a flash corrupt error message, then my psp went down hill :-(
Sorry to keep bothering you guys, but how do I configure devhook to not autorun? Or change it to the L button? While Im in fw 1.5 and playing homebrew, whener I hit the homebutton, or just exit the game in general, it comes back and starts loading devhook unless I hit the wlan switch everytime I exit a homebrew.
leave the wlan switch up to boot 1.5 and down to boot devhook.
Also please read the file called Readme.
is the custom firmware good to use? is harley g's most latest one .2? also, i heard the recovery thing like prevents u from bricking. Is this true, and how do u use the program and the recovery? sorry for the questions im a noob
it doesnt prevent bricks it restores some bricks caused by font changes and backgrounds and little things
oh, so basically, its just a thing used to fix crap when u use the firmware itself? o ok.

i still dont understand though. what are the advantages of using a custom firmware though? why do so many ppl have it? and also, why do a lotta ppl brick when installin em?

never having to see that sce intro every agian,
and curropted icons gone
launch brew right awy(dont even have to go to xmb)
change the clockspeed to make it run faster, or slower(to save battery like music)
and there arent alot of people who brick when installin it,
the ones that have, were only semi bricks, probably because they flashed devhook first,
but they were fixed
i got a Vshmain_Real.prx wrong size problem is there anyone here with a solution. please
That means that you're using a custom firmware and trie to install a custom firmware. Try to use the unflasher and maybe that'll work.
"HOLD on: Loads configuration and recovery mode"
pls help i dont understand this? :o :o
the second that the light turns on when you turn the psp on, you put the hold on.Zitat:

-= Double Post =-
Sorry again i tried booting with WLAN Up and im in the normal XMB now....i think the problem is i just can seem to boot with devhook...if anyone knows how they can help me out with this problem i would gladly listen
Your psp is semi bricked.
Use the recovery mode to load up a firmware update(aka 2.0), then downgrade again. You'll be fixed up in no time.
I dunno if u read but it lets me boot 1.5 its all good no problems but the thing is when i try to boot with devhook (WLAN switch down) it just leaves the screen on and keeps flashing the memory stick(i think it just keep retrying) so i belive that i should rename the devhook folders and just see what i can do in the config.txt for it....i dont think my PSP is semi bricked
"2.01> 2.5 > 2.6 > 2.7 > 2.71 > New 2.6 > Bricked! > New 2.6 > Bricked! > New 2.6 > Bricked 3 times using Xtrusions FULL EASY DOWNGRADER > New 2.6 > Manual DAX Downgrade to > 1.5 > 2.0 > Fresh 1.5"
That's sad and pathetic man, what a waste of money....
OK i seemed to have fixed the problem, my problem was is because ima first time user, and since whe the WLAN is down that means it loads the last emu'ed FW by devhook.
But since ima first time user it wasnt able to determine what was my last emu'ed FW, so simple common sense told me to boot in XMB(WLAN UP for 1.5 FW) and then go into devhook and emulate 2.71 FW so the Custom FIrmware config.txt file will know what was the last FW devhook emu'ed.
To check my lil theory i tried to boot with WLAN down, and just as expected it loaded the latest FW i loaded with devhook which was 2.71
Wow that was a relief, from the last 5 mins of when i first installed the Custom FW to now, I feel alot better. TY anyone who read this....and now gotta go change sig :PC:

edit: nm
to unflash this can i just run 1.5 or 2.0 update or is there a better way
use the built in unflasher...
did you have devhook flashed?
that causes that problem
updating to 2.0 then back to 1.5 will work also but the unflasher is the best way as said above.
(ps: does anyone know what ever happened to 0x89?)
