would it be possible to make the psp boot into the xmb with music playing, an mp3 via editing the prx files

Wrong section,should be in Speculation. And why would you want to do that? Couldn't you just wait an extra 3 seconds and play an MP3 from the XMB?

Yes, maybe you should ask one of those custom firmware guys to help you on that.
