Hey community, let me first introduce myself, I go by the name Vengence and I usually hang out over at the www.thegreenbutton.com. Its a site dedicated to Windows Media Center for the PC.
Just to establish my level of knowledge (what I dont know could fill a library but I'll go on), I've got a psp, it was a 2.5 and I managed downgraded to 1.5 and run devhook (up to 2.71) without having to post on forms in a n00b needs help kind of way. I'm huge advocate of the psp and homebrew, take a look at this http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/130061.aspx now for the thrust of the post, forgive the waayyy too long winded intro. I've been lurking around the site and keeping up to date with stuff and I, like everyone else, am frustrated with the psp text input situation. I've done a quick search around to see what other hackable portable game consoles have been doing to get around this and I came across this: linky! apparently the (Sony hehe)-ericsson chatboard has a relatively simple power/tx/rx wiring system, there is a SDK available for the GP32. Apparently it has become the defacto text input system for the GP32, and homebrewers incorporate support natively into their apps. Do you guys think that this combination has any promise for the psp? Has it been thought of before? |

I dont totally understand what you mean. I think one is being worked on via the serial port but i dont think anyone is re-wiring the PSP just for a keyboard.
Welcome anyways! edit: ZOMG just read your thread on the green button. Good stuff!!! edit2: Are you going to release this??

hey, thanks for the welcome. I didnt mean rewire the psp, just the ericsson chatboard. Simple job, pop off the connector, connect a cable, should be a serial output, hook up to psp. The bit I'm not hot on though is using the GP32 chatboard SDK to make a script/driver for the PSP. I was hoping to tap into the brains here to assess the plausability.
release? I dint think there was anything to release, its just a simple VNC config thing, I was on to ZX-81 (left a comment on his site at least) who ported PalmVNC to the PSP about implimenting server-side-scaling so it'd work withoug panning and scanning but I think he's on holidays at the mo. |

Just so you know, zx-81 wasn't the one who ported it. He just updated it to fix bugs (mainly the WiFi DHCP bug on 1.5).

good idea, but unfortunately you can't just hook up any old device to the psp's serial port without some soldering. since most people are unwilling to do this, you'll only have a limited number of people developing a library for it, thus most people wont implement such an input device into their code.
there are many people, however, working on irda keyboard (typically used for PDAs) which requires no hardware modification, and probably even cheaper (though I havent looked into it). |
