you have to make a program or a game that shows you know what you are doing
the admins determine whether or not its good enough

well i made a program a few months back, i think its pretty impressive at least. but i was wondering do you have to ASK for dev status or what, i also thought maybe the program has to run ON the psp, not just be FOR it...

Developing to only get Dev status and stopping is both a waste and makes me look down on you (rawr). You should develope knowing there ARE rewards for contributing to the scene, free or not (PSix wasnt free yet it was part of the scene).

I especially hate Appleseed for this... He complained the first post by someone earned them dev status, while he had around 300 and still didnt get it (back then)...

You can't just release one program and stop. You won't get recognized that way. I've released 3 programs and have had several updates on each. That is what you have to do to get dev status. BTW- What program did you create?

even if its a simple concept for a program, and its not exactly high in demand, it took a lot of effort to make. as a dev (and poets) would know, sleepless nights happen, upon ones passion lol

i stopped updating it due to bad feedback, meh - it reached version 0.3

well I'd say a good homebrew app would be something with 250+ Jumps on the front page. And something that will kept on your memorystick for along time. You can't just release some lua tut application and expect dev status.

Most people only jump when they see their favorite game (eg. Starcraft) or see "downgrader", "eLoader" or "emulator". You've got to be kidding if you think they base it on quality, enjoyability and hard work.

It depends on their mood,
I've heard on some days you can get it for compiling a tutorial sample

Well it has to be a good app or game. Take mine for example: The First Release was PSP Monopoly, it got 331 jumps, and it got downloaded ~4000 or so times (the 1.5 version + the 1.0_2.xx version). First game, written entirely in lua.

Link:PSP Monopoly

That is what got me dev status.

I got dev status not mainly for a game I made (which I have only released one, and it sucked... So I'm redoing it in c). I mainly got dev status because of helping other members learn, and spreading what knowledge I know (doesn't mainly mean here either, psp-programming, evilmana, ect...).

Also nexis gave me ev status at dcemu, and because of frozen respect for him he didn't question nexis and gave me de status here

It's the collective decision of the Admins now.
It used to be thrown out like hotcakes to just about every skiddiot who created a simple Lua game/application but now you really have to come up with a damn good program for them to even consider it.
I think that's a good thing.
Also want to point out what Bronx said: proven programming gurus and instructors can get it, but that method is a lot harder to accomplish.
It doesn't HAVE to be for the PSP, it can be for the Nintendo DS or even for a Mac/PC.

Rule nr.1 You shouldn't develop _anything_ here just to get some kind of "status" for free. I don't care if I got this so called "premium" status, I'm here because I think it's fun and I like beeing a part of the community without having anything in return. People that release one crapy LUA game makes me sick, they only do it because they want the "respect" or they are just too cheap to buy a premium membership for like 5 bucks. So please, can someone lock this worthless thread?

phew, I had to get that out of my system =S

I second that. It's just a different kind of begging and you know how I feel about that.
Anyway I didn't get dev status yet either and it doesn't bother me much else than not being able to post in the dev's dungeon. Other than that I cannot see much gain from it, because such stuff like "respect" and "acknowledgement" will be gained through your work, not through some title (and the premium-features... well... it's all kinky and stuff, but not really needed to do anything here).

so dev status isnt really worth it anyway

I also did several Releases for PSP - Yet never got Dev-Status, get used to it...

Also, as many peaple stated its simply not worth it anyway... Im developing from time to time when I feel like it and / or need a new Tool that currently aint available for PSP...

Some of my Releases were...

Tales of Eternia EU/UK SGE
Breath of Fire 3 SGE
Legend of Heroes 2 SGE
Blade Dancer SGE
Valkyrie Profile Trainer
A Fan-Translation for Dynasty Warriors 2nd Evolution... (Its released, yet uncomplete thought... and the upcoming Release of the US Version of it sorta killed any Reason to further work on it ^^)

So... first show something useful to the Peaple before even thinking bout Developer Status... and even then... you shouldnt do it for a Dev-Stat, but for contributing to the Scene...

He doesn't mean that it's not there, he just means that it's slow, like SG57 said. Sometimes, nobody will post in there for 3 or 4 days. I haven't posted once in there. I do it all in the dev forum. That way if someone knows what they're talking about, and isn't a dev, they can still answer my question.
