Default Graphic lib, layers

Hey all.
I'm currently working on HMSH (or as it's now called A Farmer's life) and I could need some help. I really need to work in layers instead of the one single vram buffer, but I'm not sure on how to do this as I don't really understand how the vram data is passed to the PSP and then to the screen.
Thanks
