Default Idea/Draft for a new MP3 player... Tell me what you think!

No offence to anyone, but IMO all of the Mp3 players for the PSP's interfaces are either too complicated or too simple. So I was thinking about making (or getting someone to make) something which looked like the interface on another Mp3 player such as the Ipod.

I suck at graphics, so I made this little mockup draft of what it could look like.

Just picture it with shiny silver bars and stainless steel L and R tabs. Personnally, I think it would be great to have on the PSP. When the L button is pressed, the L tab would slide out and show all the music you have on your psp. There would be letters along the top that you can move to with the left and right buttons, that make it show only tracks that begin with that letter. The R tab would bring out a list of all the playlists you have. Pressing select would bring up options, with stuff like Play mode (can be adjusted with the analouge stick as well), equalizer ect. All this can be done without stopping the music.

If people showed enough interest in it, I would have to get someone else to code it and do the graphics as I only know Lua

If they don't, I'd TRY make it in Lua, and use graphics from google and not release it to the public.

So what do you think? Anyone willing to make it?

I really like the Idea I hate playing my music on the XMB becuase I can't underclock and it always starts my music over and stuff becuase I hit L by accident or something.

That's why you put it on hold and use the remote that they supplied with the PSP.

And, why do you need an MP3 Player. Just use the XMB. Who cares about good graphics? And there is a really good MP3 player that someone already made. Good graphics and everything. Don't know the name of it though.

Not to go off topic, but is there an MP3 player for the PSP with auto volume leveling?

Not everyone got the value pack with the remote. I got the PSP standard pack imported from japan before it came out here, and it has no remote.

Its not just the graphics. The XMB Mp3 player sucks for finding music when you have alot. It has no equalizer. You can't put the CPU down to save battery. You can't have playlists. There are no visualizations. There is no album art. The XMB MP3 player isn't really that good at all...

And there is another MP3 player out called Simpleamp, but I find the interface a bit hard to use.

So this is gonna have a equalizer? If yes, please add the option for it to save the equalizer Settings DJSP Doesn't let me save the equalizer settings and it looks ugly.

That would be great for graphics!!! Can I see a sample of your graphics skills? If you dont have anything to show, maybe you could redo my crappy draft of the interface and make it fancy! I think I might get someone else to code it so you don't get overworked

And yes, you will be able to save EQ settings, if its not too hard

You have some nice ideas about the HMI implementation of a player there. Did you come up with those on your own or did you see something like that in another program?
In the first case, would you mind if I take up some of these ideas? It would be for PMP Mod.

Thanks! I think I pretty much came up with them on my own. I was lying in bed, trying to get to sleep and it came to me, just like that :P

Hmm... Well that depends. I really think the ideas in my interface would be great for an mp3 player. If you made it so PMP Mod had an MP3 playing feature, that would be good as well.
Buy anyhoo, yeah you can use my ideas in PMP Mod. Love your app btw

In other words, you want to make it look like the iPod interface?

Exactly dude!!!! iPod's Interface!!!! That's so cool, you could also add a fast movement option like, you choose artists right, swing between artists by just pushing L and R....or choosing albums, genre, time...something like dat!

Also, something like a lyrics system, that's sounds good too right!?

Why not just buy an iPod? It's a better MP3 player than the PSP anyway.

I'm actually in the midst of creating an mp3 player right now. Just added equalizer support, which actually works quite good. If you need any help with adding that, just ask me

* MP3 playback, of course
* 7 Different Audio Visuals! (press Left or Right trigger to change)
* 4 play modes - normal, sequential, random & repeat
* Instant Audio Modifiers (button equalizer)
o Press Square to Reduce bass.
o Press Triangle to Increase bass.
o Press Circle to increase Treble.
o Press X to increase volume.

That'd be nice, though i would probably only use it if it had atrac3+ support (not Atrac 3), atrac3+ saves me space, at least until i get a 4gig. =/

I have yet to put a single mp3 on my psp just because of the lack of space on a MS, but i would suggest making the GUI as simple as possible, just displaying the bare basics. That would give it a cleaner look

I (or the person who makes this) could make an option to remove the album art, and that wold make it cleaner.

I'm just going to reiterate, I am not going to make this. I am just putting the idea of the interface out there so other people can steal it (with my permission, and some credit to me or make it with me. I have no programming (except for lua) or graphics skills.

Feel free to jazz up my pic a bit so it doesnt look like a 2 year olds drawing :P

Yeah I was around when DJSP came out. Then the creater turned it into that crappy PSPAdvance thing, which costed money and SUCKED. DJSP was pretty good, but the interface wasnt too flashy.

No not exactly. The ipod has a much smaller screen. With the PSP, I could fit heaps more, including those little tabs on the side.

OMG that is so ultra coolioso

I think, that if that was made into an mp3 player, the EQ should be able to be 'slide down'. Maybe sliding the analouge stick up or down would make the Equalizer come out or go back. Analouge up could change the play mode (shuffle, repeat ect) trigger L could bring out the tracks list (with letters, and the ability to sort by artist, album ect) and R would bring out the playlists.

Thats a cool interface!! Go you!!!
Now if only someone could make it into something >_>
