I think this is bull, people should be allowed to criticize what they want, how the hell are people meant to improve their programs when they don't know whats wrong with them. You can never be the best judge on your own work.

The article in itself is good advice, for general constructive criticism.

The crux of the matter is good manners and respect for one's fellow human. At the end of the day, homebrew developers give you their time and effort, and ask nothing in return.

It's simple good manners to be respectful in your criticism of their work. It was a gift. Do you turn around to someone who gave you a gift, and say "what the hell is this crap?".

But follow the spirit of those constructive criticism guidelines, and the developers may actually appreciate your feedback.

I have a feeling anyone who reads that article and could take anything from it, already knows everything it discusses.

Basically, explain what you specifically like and dislike. That's it, unless they ask you how they could improve the game. Then you say something about womans tennis.

When I was 14, I did something like that to a friend of mine. Needless to say, he's dead now.

You do understand you flamed/criticized him for posting an article about constructive criticism, right?

Insult.

How do you expect they'll handle it? Constructive criticism can encourage devs, insults can discourage them, and I figure some devs are unaffected by one or both.
