Default PodSP... A completely new PSP Mp3 player! [WiP]

This thread is reserved for the updates of PodSP (title yet to be confirmed), a new PSP homebrew Mp3 player.

PodSP will have everything anyone needs in an mp3 player. It will have tabs, equalizer, album art, lyrics, a clean interface and more! There will be many features never seen in a homebrew player. It will be similar to the ipods interface, but not a clone.

Currently, we need a programmer. This is the list right now:

n00by ideas fella: fraseyboy (me)
Programmer 1: pspcoder05
Programmer 2: (We need someone here)
Graphics: pspcoder05

So we need a programmer who is very skilled (this will be hard) in C. If you wanna join the team, PM me.

Planned Features:
* Album art
* Id3 tags
* L + R tabs. L makes the left tab slide out, which has music manager. It Lets you press letters to show tracks beggining with that letter only. R goes to playlists.
* Analouge up tab. Up would make the bottom tab slide up which shows the eqaulizer.
* Analouge down changes play mode.
* Track progress bar
* Clean Ipod style interface
* Playlists
* Easy music file finding with letter sorting
* Equalizer
* Lyrics viewer
* Ability to put the clock speed down to save battery
* Shortcut From XMB PRX module
* Themes and visuals
* Any other ideas anyone else thinks of (post them here)

A plan of what the interface should look like will be up here soon.

I know that this is a mammoth task, so it would be great to have another coder to help us.

Hope this project ends up being finished If you have any ideas, post them and I'll give them to the cheif programmer.

What about playing mp3s while on the internet? Though that seems unlikely :P

Has your coder confirmed this?

Software decoding of MP3's eats up a lot of CPU - most MP3 players I've seen have to clock to 333mhz just to play MP3's normally.

Mp3 streaming is a nice feature, too and playlist support (m3u,pls playlists).
It's very nice, if we can stream mp3's like Wifi Jukebox.

Since he's not coding it himself he can just add any features he wants, the coder might get some problems though. Not all of those are very simple to accomplish.

222MHz works just fine, anything below that makes the sound crackle like hell.

Auto volume leveling would be a nifty feature.

I think 166Mhz still works fine though I could be wrong. Also,

"Easy music file finding with letter sorting"

I wonder if anyone will ever put like a thousand songs into his/her PSP and have troubles finding the songs. Most of the time, people will just throw in an album or two, the rest is reserved for movie and homebrews (if there are any). May as well put in a Visualizer since the one in Need For Speed - Most Wanted worked fine on 222Mhz and that's what most of the current mp3 players lack.

This is imposible, bnecause you would need custom firmware on 2.71, which just doesn't work.

I think he meant using it as an prx, so you can listen to music anywhere. I doubt they'll do that though.

Hey guys, remember we still need a coder. So if there's any good C coders out there, give me a PM

Another feature this might have is theme support. The main theme will kinda be Mac OSX clean style.

We are adding flash0 modules.
So that the player can be started by shortcuts from XMB.
The prx which we are coding now is for the shortcuts.
But nice IDEA to listen MP3 anywhere on the XMB.
We still have not planned on that.

Added Plans:
Shortcut From XMB PRX module.
Themes and visuals.

Bye guys.

Eqaulizer settings would be saved before exiting program?

about lowering the cpu speed, the MP3 player in the xmb works fine at 66MHz on Dev Hook, although the actual xmb itself is pretty slow.

That's probably because the mp3 thread has a high priority. However, if you're using the audio callback function you can't set the priority (I think that's what they're going to use).

When I clock the PSP to 29mhz it still plays mp3s perfectly. The XMB is just slow as crap.

That's because the XMB player uses the ME to decode MP3's, so there is no strain on the cpu. However, since that kind of "hardware decoding" hasn't been unlocked yet, homebrew has to use software decoding via libmad, which is slow.

Bye guys.
no offense, i just dont think you guys have the skills or even know what amount of coding would be involved to make this pretty much a clone of the iPod with better features.
