Default [Video/Tut] Launching TIFF Homebrew - MUSIC & MOVIE (more stable)

After seeing the thread in the PSP-Hacks section as well as the author's enw method oflaunching hombrew, I thought Id try it, and what do you know, the MUSIC thumnail viewing has the same effect as the PHOTO thumbnails. This means we can launch TIFF homebrew with a most likely different caching behaviour, resulting in a possibly more stable launching method.

EDIT
Because of recenet bickering and thick headed-ness, not too many people can see the original founder of the MUSIC method. Assuming all who look here would have looked there, the author of that thread would be suffienct enough to be 'credit'. I guess not, so the founder of the MUSIC viewer launching method is dylandangles, and if you look more closely, I havent said I found this anywhere, rather I was just confirming it.
EDIT

Here is a video for proof, as well as a teaser for you 2.x+'er's that can't downgrade just yet

**Note** The Devhook capturing plugin for some reason doesn't capture '-' or '_', therefore the 1/2 the boader and the pad is gone, but you get the idea

Anyways, it's important to know the utt-most BASICS of what's happening within the TIFF file called 'loadbin.tif'.

Inside loadbin.tif, hex edit it to edit it else just view it with notepad, you'll find a string around... (im too lazy to look up the offset ) Better yet, just scroll down until you reach alot of NULL bytes (0), scroll up from there until you come across a chunk of symbols, at the bottom you should see the path to the bin to be loaded. Better yet, here's a tutorial on howto get Tetris up and running through the MUSIC directory...

1. Get the tetris game, look at its contents. You should see a JPG, a BIN and a TIF. We only need the TIF and BIN.
2. Take your favorite Hex Editor (google it for one) open up the TIF. Scroll down until you reach alot of 0's, once there, scroll up until you find a chunk of symbols, followed by a path (or do a ASCII string search for 'ms0').
3. Now, this path is the pathway to the .bin file to be loaded. AKA what game is to be loaded. Since we don't want to make a mess out of just one game, we'll keep our files together. Edit the path from saying something or other:
Code:
ms0:/psp/photo/tetris/tetris.bin
to
Code:
ms0:/psp/music/tetris/tetris.bin
4. Note, most hex editors don't support deletion, rather over-write. So just type over 'photo' with 'music'.
5. Now, we have our TIF image when displayd on the PSP, to load the tetris game .bin from psp/music/tetris/tetris.bin. Now we need to do the main part of this newfound stabability trick... View the TIF image from the MUSIC directory.
6. Simple: Copy hte TETRIS folder your working in (you should have edited the TIFF image in it, as well as kept the tetris.bin in it) to the MUSIC folder.

That's it! No need to rename loadbin.tif or whatever .tif you have to .jpg, as the MUSIC thumbnail viewer works just liek the PHOTO viewer, meaning it supports TIF images as thumbnails

Tell me if i should add anything!

EDIT

Guess what?

That's what...

After careful mods here and there, I can now successfully launch any TIFF homebrew EVERYTIME. The Movie browser obviously has... I wanna say 0 caching behaviour or whatever it is that causes un-stable results. After the first run with teh Movie directory, it loads anything, instantly. the first run through, it takes about 10 seconds to load up.

Let me know if anyone is ineterested in this new found launching method (I suppose I founded it too ) else Ill just keep using it for my personal benefit

I love finding this stuff...

@Devs (i suppose) - I havent a clue whether these 2 new homebrew launching methods have any influence on a memory dump leaving traces of NIDs/names (maybe MUSIC leaving sceAudio*) or whether the blockade stopping flash0 access is bypassed, but surely, they should be tried for such.

How do you manage to have the gall to claim this as your own discovery, after having flamed the original finder for "obvious BS" in the thread that actually proposes it?

You, sir, are a bounder and a cad. I'm seriously disappointed.

I take it this would have the same effect if ran from the saved data menu? Since you could replace ICON1.PNG with the TIFF but the PSP will still decode it as a TIFF even though it has .PNG as its extension?

I'm no expert, but isn't this method a little better? And isn't this tutorial a lot more clear?

As long as SG57 didn't learn this specific method from someone else, nothing in his post is deceptive. It can be read that way, but only if you don't think it through, want to misunderstand it, or jump on the bandwagon.

The point is, it is the same method that he denounced earlier. All he's done is make it more complex by requiring a hex edit to achieve the same results.

Now, it's useful to have some testing, and that's a good thing, but it's by no means a new find (compared to the original thread).

I haven't tried SG57's method (no hex editor), but doesn't it eliminate the problem of:

BTW, SG57, just edit your post and give ATLEAST SOME credit to the original founder.

Fanjita - You mis-interpreted COMPLETELY. If you re-read, I said without any word from the orifiginal finder of the MUSIC one on how he got it running just by copying over when the .bin loader isn't like that -- it has the path to load the bin hardcoded in it.

What with you not meantioning, nor elaborating on such a thing, this is B$.
You obviously made it out wrong, everyone had questions and mixed answers, and just to point something out, that the .bin is hard coded to be loaded from the loadtif, if the author doesnt elaborate on this, than this is B$.

As for everyone else - where did i say i found the MUSIC one up? Thats right -- i didnt. I said I was just confirming with a video + tut on how to use the MUSIC one, and later I made the MOVIE one. How am I not giving credit? I said the thread over at PSPHacks sub-forum, thinking abyone who looked in the other one will look here, seemed pretty obvious to me. But sorry, geesh, credit for finding the MUSIC launching method, and AKA in this thread as 'the creator of the thread in PSPHacks section' goes to dylandangles.

Honestly, i dont care what you all think as I never said I found the MUSIC one, rather I confirmed it to be true and working. As for hte tutorial, looks like i definately copied it from dylandangles. Yup, must be true.

I don't think this way is any more stable than the other way. Most people that are having trouble loading tiff hb with 2.8. Just need to move the photo folder out of the main dir. I had tons of problems loading tiff before i moved the photo folder to psp folder. Now it loads everytime and i don't even use the slideshow method.

Well, there is one problem with this method, you can only launch one piece of homebrew at a time. Also, it launches right away so you can't play music.

Yes, but can you use more then one homebrew thing in the music folder?

Or just one?

I guess so. And BOOKRU won't work for me in the music folder.

It won't work whenever I have any other TIFF game/app on there.
But it works fine single! WTF. =X

That part?
That is for the MOVIE launching method, note how its AFTER the MOVIE video.

As for homebrew laucnhing through MUSIC, I do believe you can create a thumbnail, make it hte oldest to be modified, and it should show as the thumbnail of hte folder. Just as hte PHOTO folder has its thumbnail viewing setup. That isnt tested, but im sure it's true. Than again, the only reasonit works in the MUSIC section is because the TIF becomes hte thumbnail, thus viewing it... Unless the MUSIC section supports more than one sub-folder, it will only launch one. Oh and same for MOVIE since there arent any sub-folders within the MOVIE section (i dont think...). I wish to try getting flash0 write access on these 2 new methods, but I fear fileassistant for TIFF has it commented out... Else, ill just use Slasher's example of writing to flash (in hopes the SDK supports the functions...).

Sigh. Now i'm just waiting for someone to say "Hey, you can launch tiff homebrew through the RSS feeds and they do this weird red screen flashy thing at the start does this mean we can get kernel on 2.8"

But if launching through the MUSIC menu actually is more stable, that's only a good thing.

(RSS isn't very stable by the way; nor very flexible, so don't bother :P)

Stable or not, if traces of things NOT in the original method (PHOTO) are found in the memory dump, itd be worth while to search all methods in hopes to botain all nids for when/if the eloader comes (i say If since there isnt any REAL evidence it amy come out for 2.8, but Fanjita's word, which is nice and trustworhy, but ya never know unfortunately)
