I have reinstalled cygwin 7 times and I cant get it to start. I have had it prefiously and i worked fine. when i start the .bat, it comes up for about a second then closes again. any ideas?

Hmm, that's weird. I've never had this problem. Have you edited the .bat file?

still nothing. I just downloaded the setup from a different source and used a different mirror. its downloading all the crap right now...

Maybe use the pre-made cygwin package. There was a thread about it somewhere. I think it was made by Sousanator, or (X).

hmm... thats an idea but it appears that creates an EBOOT. Im doing TIFF at the moment

Nope, it creates a binary elf file. THe EBOOT creation is a seperate step.

A binary executable. Like a .exe so if is specific to a hardware platform. An eboot is basically a container that has an elf and some other files. A bin file is a stripped elf AFAIK in terms of the TIFF SDK.

If you look at the makefile from SG57, you can see the building steps from .o (object files) to the binary.

I've had problems like this with one or two apps before. They just won't start. But they work fine on other computers. Maybe it's your registry. Try cleaning it.

do you know of any FREE apps to do that cause all the ones ive downloaded just ell me whats wrong but wont fix it without me buying the damn thing

im guessing you have another cygwin1.dll somewhere on your computer
scan the entire comp, hidden and system files included, and delete everything except the one in "bin" in the cygwin folder
also, i'd be better if you didnt use the windows search as it wont look in certain system folders

If you are not getting it work , it does'nt mean cygwin is stupid.
Its being used by thousands of ppl and most of them have no problem atall.

Now you have installed cygwin in X drive right ? (replace x with your one).
Your cygwin isnt working cause you have not made the batch file correctly.

Here is mine. Dont copy paste it cause yours may be different.

X:
chdir X:\cygwin\bin

set path=%path%;X:/cygwin/usr/local/pspdev/bin
set PSPSDK=X:/cygwin/usr/local/pspdev

bash --login -i

This should load it. But replace your drive.
And dont install it in bad areas like My Documents etc.
If you install it there , you must replace everything in qoutes.
So try this out. Hope it works

ok it seems to be kinda working now...but instead of it saying MY_NAME@MY_COMP, it says hash-3.1$ wtf does that mean?

CYGWIN took me forever to install, I mean forever, And the funny thing is, I dont even use it since i code in LUA, I want to learn C but i still got ways to go...
