Default [Preview] BoomBlocks 3D

For those of you that have tried my recently released Pick-o-Mania, that's just the beginning of it. I have since then fixed up some display and movement bugs.

But more importantly, further versions will be called BoomBlocks, which will play like the PS2 action-puzzler Bombastic. I have NEVER played this game actually, only read about it from reviews. So it's very possible that my game will have altered rules.

You roll the dice around the board to group together the same number that's facing on top. To clear them, you must group 2 of 2, 3 of 3, etc. Chain more dice together for bigger combos. Clear the board as much as possible because more dice will be falling from above. The game is over when the whole board fills up with dice, or when time runs out (there will be several game modes).

That's the basic idea for this game. I pretty much have 80% of the graphics code done, and now mainly working on the code that actually make the game rules work.

Here's a pic of my progress so far.

That's a red cursor, on top of blocks that have transparent sides, just for testing the transparent blending features.

I've been debugging like crazy. Getting the camera views and object positions looking right has been tough!

Lastly, I gotta thank skistovel for his PSPGU tutorials. I'm getting used to working with PSPGU more now. It's really a lot like OpenGL, but for the PSP.

I cleaned up a bunch of code so that it is easier to make the rules of the game work. Still working on the rules part for now.

justchris - i love opengl/pspgl... Think its worth it to convert? I justhope its not so much a challenge as it was to learn opengl. I use pspgl personally. Im fine with a smaller framerate for easier/less coding.

Personally, I use PSPGL for 2D stuff, but for this game I'm using GU. It's very similar to set things up since PSPGL is just a wrapper for GU. I have the big red book for OpenGL reference so doing graphics for PSP is a lot easier.

But I'm still having problems with lighting If I could do things like lights and shadows it would look so much cooler.

Consult Insomniac197 (?) for lighting as well as the stencil buffer for reflections.

Wow, I leave this board for a few months and someone actually made a game like the one I was planning (HexAxis) and wow- it's even better than what I could've done!
