Default [Release] Installotron 0.6

The latest installotron version is now out, you can find it at www.psp-homebrew.eu and search for Installotron, but if you run an existing installotron installation then it will auto-update to the new version automatically.

It's possible that some older versions of Installotron will fail to update due to a bug that was just fixed. If that happens, you should be able to download the latest version to your memory stick and install using the file browser (see below).

The main change is a menu to choose which network connection to use, or alternatively you can use a new file browser to install Installotron-ready ZIP files from your memory stick, without needing to use the PSP's wifi.

Extra apps are being added slowly all the time.

Thanks Fanjita, Can't QJ help you with hosting homebrew? Or maybe fetch homebrew from external servers so more homebrew can be supported?

Or do you have any other ideas to improve homebrew support?

Wow, Installotron rocks! The file browser also means that I no longer need Anonymous Tipster's unzip thingy; I can just place whatever files I need compressed into a zip along with a hbinfo.txt saying where to extract it to (I only have a 32mb memory stick so I need to make use of all my space).

One bug: On the file browser, upon exiting the options menu, the text in the "status bar" at the bottom doesn't change back from the options menu's text.

A suggestion: Give file-size information on the menu and add a check that there's enough space left on the memory stick before downloading. This way you don't end up downloading most of some 50mb game just to find there's not enough space on the memory stick.

EDIT after seeing post above me: I would quite like it if you would give us the installotron server and allow users to connect to other servers, but if you don't want to (for reasons like: you don't want to give out the server; you don't want people to get angry at you if they get a bricker off installotron) then it's okay.

EDIT2: It stopped working ! Now it just gets stuck at "Connecting to psp-homebrew database" whereas the first time (the only time it worked) it connected in a few seconds. The green wlan light is always on. I've placed the PSP right next to the router and it didn't help.

If I have 2.71 SE-C, will it only show homebrew compatible with 2.71?

I tried to update from v0.5 and got the error you mentioned might pop up. Downloaded latest from www.psp-homebrew.eu and all is good.

Up and running on my 2.71SE-C

Yeah, But if we where to use a server that people trust (As already said, QJ) and maybe you could have a selection of "content updaters" to add homebrew to the selected server, Then you won't see "brickers" being uploaded to the server.

Or another idea could be to add NethostFS support to the file browser menu so you could run your own private server using Install-O-Tron.

Working fine for me.

EDIT : Ah ha, I knew it could be done. Got NethostFS working with Install-O-Tron by enabling Nethost Redirection to Ms0 in IRshell and loading the Install-O-Tron EBOOT.PBP once I done that i selected connection 0 (file browser) and could see all my files from my PC. Nice.

Thank you so much for Installatron & eLoader. I got my firts PSP last week and I also became a TA-082 victim. My intentions of buying a PSP were only to play oldschool games on the go and maybe buy a PSP game or two. I love you man. I will be donating to these two projects very very very soon. Thank you so much... you just made my PSP life easy.

BTW: Can you please make the next Installatron so we know which version of the app we are installing? Just to make sure we getting the latest and re-installing the same again. I'm one of those who likes to keep everything uptodate.

PS If I was a girl I would let all of you eLoaders and Installatron Developers Gand Bang me... LOL J/K

But yes.... I'm that greatful.

Great work!!!!

The barrier to Installotron is not a problem with server capacity or anything similar. The issue is that each homebrew needs a working hbinfo.txt for Installotron to be able to use it.

So, for each app that is added, a new hbinfo.txt needs to be written, and then tested, before the program can be certified as Installotron-compatible. That takes time.

Luckily some developers have started to adopt the hbinfo.txt format (it's really not hard), and a few volunteers have started producing and testing hbinfo.txt-packaged homebrew (thanks guys!), so this is starting to pick up. Some of the changes in 0.6 help to streamline this process (you can now test packages via the file browser, and the process to update the psp-homebrew database has lost one manual step too), so this should be easier in future.

In the longer term, the aim is to find a way to to avoid needing hbinfo.txt for the majority of homebrew, but that will take a while.

In the meantime, if you happen to know of any homebrew that contains hbinfo.txt but isn't marked as compatible, or if you want details of how to volunteer for producing more Installotron-ready packages, please let me know.

Hi, I forgot to ask:

1 .How do I go back to the eLoader menu after I'm done getting what I need from Installatron? (I pressed the "Triangle button" but there were no instructions in the help section in how to do this)

2. How do I go back to the eLoader menu when I'm finish using an emulator?

3. How do I get back to my PSP main menu from eLoader?

Thank you for your time.

the WLAN light briefly switched on(by briefly i mean less than a second), so i dont even think it made an attempt to connect. i use that same configuration for PSPRadio, nethostFS with irshell, and other apps. i dont know why installotron doesnt want to connect to it.

*EDIT - wait, the WLAN light never even turned on at all.

I think that the WLAN switch has to be open before you even run Installotron

im pretty sure i know i have it right on my side. ive been downloading and running apps from QJ for ehh year and a half? ive never actually had to post here though.

I completely shut off my psp. i rebooted, made sure the wlan switch was on, tried installotron, then got the same error "Unable to connect to access point."

I even made a new configuration and deleted the old one with no luck.

i also tried running it from within iRshell with the same results.

Thanks, Fanjita. Installotron is a great app!

I'm used to being able to simply `emerge foo' to install an application under Gentoo and not have to mess around manually downloading/installing/updating stuff, so being able to install stuff just as easily on my PSP is brilliant.

Is WPA enabled on your access point? Only thing I can think of right now that could be causing problems.

The best list currently is here: http://psp-homebrew.eu/popular.php

That includes a column that shows whether each item is supported or not. At some point I might add a specific query showing all Installotron homebrew, but because the results vary slightly depending on which firmware you're running, that might not be very useful, I'm not sure.

Well, you can get a general idea of what is causing the problem by using addr2line if you can get the elf file out of the install o tron eboot...
