Default card game vocabulary please! I'm french!

Hi,

I'm developping a card game for the PSP (in lua), in fact rewriting completely a game I made for PC a while ago. It is a really fun game, and my goal is to develop it in a way so that when I'll loose interest, any programmer will be able to continue/improve it (and any designer will be able to skin it easily).
So I'm doing it completely in english and as I'm only a poor french guy , I'm having some trouble finding the proper vocabulary for card games.
As there are probably many card games developped out there, I thought why not making a thread for that, might be helpful for some people..
I suggest everyone with words in mind, put it here with explanations, and I'll update this message.

I'm starting, correct me if I make mistakes:

ace, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten: the numeral cards
clubs: one of the 4 suits represented in black with 3 leaves
a deck: a pile of cards
diamonds: one of the 4 suits represented by a red rhombus (?)
the excuse: one special card found in tarot decks, represented with a guy playing music, and a star instead of a number
a hand: represents all the cards held by one person
hearts: one of the 4 suits represented by a red heart
jack: cards represented with a jack and the letter J
a joker: a card represented with a joker, which usually has special use in game, like replacing any card etc...
king: cards represented with a king and the letter K
knight: used in tarot decks, goes between the jack and the queen
to pass: to skip your turn without playing
le petit: name of the special trump card in a tarot game which has the number 1
queen: cards represented with a queen and the letter Q
spades: one of the 4 suits represented in black like an upside down heart
a suit: one amongst clubs, hearts, spades and diamonds.
tarot: a french (?) game containing 78 cards (52 + 4 knights + 22 trumps)
a trump card: special card that has no suit, found in tarot games
a turn: represents a period in a game where one person plays, "it's his turn"

ok this needs a lot of improvements so do not hesitate. I'm also not a specialist in poker so go on with your vocabulary (full house etc)

what I need for now are those words I don't know:
- in french: "le tapis" which you can translate by "the carpet" but I don't think it'called like this . it is where you put the cards when you play. it actually is a carpet usually.

- in french: "un pli". some card games you can divide like in rounds, so "un pli" is "a round" but for card games.

- in french "avoir la main": "having the hand" when translating, you "have the hand" when you have the advantage and it's your turn to play <answered>

- in french "passer" : I don't know if you skip your turn, pass your turn, what can you say? "I pass", "I skip", "I skip my turn"... <answered>

in french: "figure" : designates all the cards with people on it (jack, knight, queen, king). "faces"?

If you have an english dictionary, I'll be happy to have the real definitions here.
I'm counting on everyone, thanks!

"a color: one amongst clubs, hearts, spades and diamonds."
hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades are suits.
So if you had Ace of spades, and someone asks what suit you have,
you would say Spades.
" in french "passer" : I don't know if you skip your turn, pass your turn, what can you say? "I pass", "I skip", "I skip my turn"..."
You would say "Pass".
"in french "avoir la main": "having the hand" when translating, you "have the hand" when you have the advantage and it's your turn to play"
You would say "It's your turn", or "It's my turn".

You would say "It's your turn", or "It's my turn".
I just think there should be something else to say that, at least in french there is one... you can say "c'est mon tour" ("it's my turn") but when playing cards you generally say "j'ai la main", the closest I can think of is "I have advantage". so it's the turn of the player who has "la main"...

Also how can I then say that a trump card for example does not belong to clubs, hearts, spades and diamonds? "does not belong to any of the 4 suits"?

No, you definately say It's my turn, or "Art's turn".

As fot the second question, I don't know..
I have only played with a standard deck, and every card has a suit except for the
Jokers which are left out of most games.

Also, I think Trumps might have a different meaning here... I've heard it mentioned in
card games before, but don't know it's meaning.

So you can say a card "has no suit", that's what I wanted to know

Thanks for your help.
