Yep :) And I'm not english native so I'm sure it can be improved alot. If you people have ideas, do not hesitate, you can even put your own sentences easily as everything is in a text file "configuration/speech.properties" the format isOriginally Posted by JEMdev

I don't remember for the last version I up'ed but currently I can go in the skins menu and change everything on the fly: cards, avatars, background, icons, cursor :). I can even hot-install new skins, usb is activated so now you can preview the skins you make in live.Originally Posted by JEMdev
I'm making the next version skin friendly and hope I'll see many skins because it's hard work.
And JEMdev, many many thanks for the graphics you sent me, I'll include them in next version.

in event of victory
Im done with this!!
in event of becoming A-hole
New version available: 0.4a!!
Nothing really important in there except that now the skin menus are done, they look ok. And so now, the skinning mechanism is finished and won't change anymore. So it is time now for making skins!
Look at my skins for examples:
Blue variation speechbubbles
FMA alchemist cursor
FMA avatars: ed, al, winry, roy
FMA Blue Carpet
Magic old style cards
SFA ranks icons
To install them they should be extracted in the psp game folder, the folder structure is in the zip files so everything should go to its place. If you did change the name of the folder, you know how to install this :).
You can hot install skins (usb is activated), except for carpets, as I'm facing a really weird bug. If you know why...
For your newly hot installed skin to be loaded, you have to quit the skin menu and reopen it, as everything is buffered when you stay in it.
If someone makes a skin, can you please post it here? I'll add it to the first post.
I'm also thinking about changing the name of my game, why not call the ******* "the tramp" (found it in an english-french dictionary) does that sound right?
If so, what are your ideas for the name of the game? I want it to sound fun. Some thoughts:
"The tramp", "TRAMP!", "The crazy tramp card game", "poor tramp", "our beloved society", "the card game of life"...
A-Hole and the Tramp!!! j/k
actually i like the idea of

What do you think?
The next release I'll make will be excellent, I added something that will make you want to play more (at least that worked on me and my girlfriend :))
I just need to add some complementary things so nothing is lost on the release after the next.
Great game; in Aus though it's just called Thirteen.
Fun. I have been playing "President" (as we call it) with real people and it is pretty simular.
The cards in the game are abit confusing for me as in New Zealand the cards go like this:
3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6 -> 7 -> 8 -> 9 -> 10 -> Jack -> Queen -> King -> Ace -> 2 -> Joker
and also we have what we call "Runs".
Yes I know that many people play with a normal deck, I took the habit of playing with a tarot deck that's where the cards come from. the knight (cavalier in french, so the card labelled with a "C") goes between jack and queen. doesn't add much axcept you have even more cards in hand. I don't have jokers but tramp cards (1, 21, excuse from tarot), used to cut (you use jokers to cut, right?).Originally Posted by nesianstyles
And I like also the rule letting combinations with the 2's, which are then super powerful as in brings modularity.
I saw this on wikipedia. Never heard of that before I found that article.Originally Posted by nesianstyles

Thanks! Is there a reason why it's called Thirteen?Originally Posted by Renpatsu
yes, jokers are used to cut ;)
We play in NZ with the first run rule, you know one time my whole hand was a run :)
Here comes version 0.5a :)
It is still not a complete version as the game preferences are not made, but I made many things for this version, mainly:
- saves for state and scores
- support for complete themes
If you update from last version, please remove it first. I had to change the name of the main folder as my newly installed firmware (3.02 OE-B) doesn't hide the corrupt icon otherwise.
I also had to make that change in my skins that's why they are updated.
I added a skin by the way, look in the first post.
hope you like this version even more!

Hmm..... 6 times that I have actually became President... the game freezes after my first card that I play. Anyone else have this problem? or is there something I can do to fix it? It's just getting very annoying, I become Pres, have a nice hand, and boom, freezes and shuts down the psp.
Well, we don't use a tarot deck and instead use a standard deck of cards, so in all simplicity it's because we're dealt thirteen cards between four players, in the case of extra players thirteen cards from a second deck are used.
Yes, nothing special.
Ok, i have no idea what kind of game this is, but good luck, and i am downloading right now for the first time. Good luck!
Calypso - Enjoy the excellent 2D space shooter:
"Quoting yourself in your signature means you love to masterbate while looking at the mirror." -me (oh, wait...)
Are you using the game as I gave it or do you do something special? Because I played hours long with that version without any freeze. I sometimes experienced random freezes with previous versions, but that was really not often. I changed some things (added System.sleep in loops to let the PSP breath) and now it never froze for me. I hope you're not using luaplayer 0.20 to run my game because with that version I never managed to go even after the loading process. The game may be flirting with the limits of luaplayer so maybe you're doing something pushing it too far? But I wonder what because I can even launch it from IRShell with music and it goes ok. You might want to try using IRShell and change cpu clock to 266 or 300.Originally Posted by DCGohan
But first you can try to edit the file named "preferences.properti es" in *******/Applications/*******/configuration (use wordpad) and set activateUSB to false.
For other people, you may like to change the property "quickFinish" and set it to true in this same file I forget to set it when I made the release.
DCGohan, I hope we'll find what's wrong. Can you tell me what firmware you have and give me any details about your config (do you use any plugins etc)?
Dude this is so sweet.
I just read this, so be careful:
Taken from wiki.ps2dev.org/psp:lua_player:functions :
Attention: When writing from USB to the memory stick, you must not write from within your Lua script to the memory stick, until you disable USB, otherwise the filesystem of your memory stick gets corrupted and you have to reformat your memmory stick.
For the moment, usb is enabled so be careful, I'm writing to the memory stick often, that's after each game, and after changing the skin for something. High chances this is why I had to reformat mine (haven't lost anything but some files/folders of the project were damaged).
So to "hot install" skins, I wonder if it is OK to use IRShell in the background letting it enable USB?
If you have the answer please let me know.
I made a few friends test ***** and heres the feedback I got.
We're all french so we had no problem with the name of the cards (V/C/D/R). They all had great fun (and the rules don't change that much from those we use (we don't use the '2 as a joker combo')). All in all everybody found it great (I can't even play with my psp now!)
He are a few ideas for next releases (if you are looking for ideas!)
Possibility to change the number of players (3 to 5 players could be nice)
Possibility to change the cards : instead of 2 french tarot decks, the possibility to use only one for example, of a 'normal' 52 card pack, maybe with and without jokers (to suit everybody's type of play)
Great that everything is skinnable, had loads of fun with people playing with a picture of themselves as an icon.
For the name, sure it's a bad word, but hey ! it's the name of the game! What about using the french name of the game (with doesn't mean much in english so it would be ok ... ("trouduc")) (even though i don't find it sounds good in english!)
I suppose a multiplayer version might be of interest for some people.
And while I'm at it : what about translations (and a french version for example!) ?
Anyway : Keep up the good work you've done a really good job : it's nice, playable, stable, and the AI isn't that bad!
greets, from a pub full of ****** maniacs!

Thanks for the feedback!
As for your suggestions, I could change the number of players to 3, but 5 would be impossible there isn't enough space on the screen, I already had hard time at the beginning with this. Well, it is always possible but would take too much time...
Using one deck instead of 2 would be also easy to do, I did it a bunch of time for myself to test (game ends quickly with half the cards :)), with or without jokers would also be possible easily.
The only problem is with the scores, If I enable those options they wouldn't mean anything, or I would have to make highscore tables for every combination of play type. And I don't want to lol!
For the name, I also thought about calling it trouduc, that's how I call it when I talk about it, but I though that would be cheating with the censoring features of the board and wouldn't be that much appealing for english speaking people. A**h*** is a word known by everyone :)
I thing I'll keep it as is, the name seems not to be a problem to make the news on QJ.
For the translation, it's hardly doable. I wanted to do it, I'm used to make multi-lingual projects, but it's not easy with luaplayer, sadly. Luaplayer has its own encoding, wich supports very few characters, that is, no accents, no cedille, nothing to have proper french (or proper anything except english).
I hope I'm mistaking but I don't think so
While you are at it, I'd like to know what you think of some things:
- is the AI too weak? too strong? ok? I plan to make them more intelligent for end game (so they don't play a low pair if you are just after them with 2 cards in hand, things like that)
- is the scoring ok? do you feel rewarded when you played great? note that I changed that a bit for the next version already, social ascension will be more rewarding (2000 to get president while being ******* isn't enough!)
- what about the buttons I used, does it feel natural? do you make mistakes sometimes? my girlfriend sometimes passes without wanting to, for example. I thought about adding a confirmation box for that case but nobody complained, so maybe my girlfriend is simply dumb lol.
- what skin do you use? did you download those I made that are in the first post?
- you seem to be rather good at english, did I make mistakes somewhere in the game? nobody's complaining, I wonder if they just don't care?
Glad to see people liking the game :)
en plus des franšais c'est chouette :)
glad my comments were usefull !
As i understand scores are a tricky problem (how do you evaluate the score?) maybe some people have a few ideas on a score system...
(if I have an idea, i'll keep you updated!)
For the translations, it's a shame if you can't do it, but i understand that it's not always possible if not planned from the start (and if luascripts don't accept utf8 encoding )
On the other hand : can you make the texts editable ? (so that people can add more sentences/catch phrases) Actually wouldn't that be a way for people to translate the sentences (you can always tell them to avoid accents and funny caracters ) (i'll try and have a look tonight in the lua scripts to see if i can modify things myself) (i did actually see that accents didn't work when used in the player's names/descriptions (they were replaced by a *)
I'll try and answer to all your questions :
From what I gathered from the forum people say the AI is week : over here people at the pub had a hard time becomming president! Even if the AI isn't super intelligent, it's enough for them; and i haven't yet seen the computer play a low pair at the end (they generally finish with quite high trebbles, or a combo pair with a 2)
I can't say i looked at the scores, but nobody complained about them! and since i haven't heard about any scoring system for ****** you might as well do as you want , so long you're happy with it!
For the buttons, you(ve got to get used to them, but that doesn't take long. We had the same problem as your girlfriend : we passed when some times we would have wanted to play something. I had a problem in the changing skins menu : i couldn't remember which button to press to save, which one to cancel. (maybe you could print that on screen)
Skin-wise i downloaded the FMA skins straight away, they greatly improve the visual quality of the game. I then added my own caracter skins (with photos of my friends who play **** at the pub), and a custom carpet based on a picture of the pub. Haven't tried altering the cards or the other skinable items yet.
For the english mistakes , I didn't see any but I wasn't looking for any either. I'll try and keep a lookout and see if I spot any.
Is QJ your official forum for **** or do you have a french page ? (I can give you my comments in french if you prefer!)
Hope some talented artists do a few nice skins for the game, and post them here!

I meant that when you are about to finish, if you have 2 cards in hand they should avoid playing low pairs because there is a high chance you'll finish. they should break their pairs, or directly add a 2 to play groups of 3 cards.Originally Posted by bluefr
It's true I made them conservative with the cards :). Thay lack intelligence with a weak hand.

Hi everyone, here is my last version, 0.6b.
It reached a stage where it can almost be considered completely finished, I know 2 bugs that are still there so it is a beta, but it is fully functional.
This will certainly be the last version I'll release, I took it further than I would have expected, I like the result, and don't want to mess with it anymore :)
If you find a bug I'll fix it, but don't expect more, at least in the near futur.
I'd like to thank particularly baf, bluefr and JEMDev for beta testing that last version, and for their ideas and interest. I'd also like to thank everyone of you who gave feedback and support in this thread. That game wouldn't be what it is without everyone.
I hope you'll enjoy that last version as much as I enjoyed implementing and playing it.
Oh and for those who have the old version, you can safely overwrite it, your scores & preferences will be kept.
- changed menu graphics: added buttons explanations
- refresh rate optimization in game & menus
- changed social ascension scores
- corrected minor bugs + various improvements
- usb management changed to not corrupt MS
- shows battery info + uptime in menus
- added possibility to choose ai level: easy, normal & hard.
- corrected a bug in the AI, again!
- game preferences menu is now available
- added many many options
- added statistics
- added more speech
- credits are available
- changed splash screen, eboot icon & default avatars.
- adapted options to beginners (slow game, easy AI)
- help menu is available (no help for unimplemented rules, lacks icons explanation)

why don't you do a french version ?
it could be great

I wanted it to be multi lingual at first but then I realised that the LuaPlayer could not display characters like ÚŔÓ´š etc.. so it's english only.
And furthermore, I'm not interested anymore in updating it, although if a more stable (than 0.20) luaplayer supporting utf-8 chars were released, I wouldn't resist to release a french version at least (multi lingual at best).
Note also that this is open source, so if someone wants it bad enough, it is possible to make this multi lingual using a mechanism with bitmap fonts; as internally, strings in luaplayer are UTF-8, they just cannot be displayed.
See for example this program.
