RELEASE: LuaDevKit R2 BETA! A whole host of new features await.

Please update this so that some of the annoying bugs are fixed. And, remove some 'features' or atleast add a disable option for them (like when you type in a ( is makes a space then a )... This is annoying for me since i program my arguments as i go, meaning i type them out, so the last thing i type is the )...

Everytime I convince myself to use this cause its convient (i use WLP since i have no PSP... so the button right next to my code is convient) I get annoyed by how it doesnt auto-indent like other IDEs/editors, how the tab is different hte 10 spaces (it doesnt line up the code correctly if you do a tab, then under it 10 spaces or 9 or 11, it just wont line up). Then when doing arguments i get annoyed having to click the left on th ecursor key, then backspace (to get rid of the spacein the perenteces) then do the arguments... it just gets annoying to me after a while.

These are all my opinions... and suggestions so.

Thank you for creating such a useful tool. Don't be scared about losing peoples attention, because you wont. It's such a great help, albeit there are some annoying features. I tend to agree with SG57 in that the double parenthesis get annoying, espeically when typing notes, but also in the actual programming.

I absolutely LOVE the tester thing. I don;t even have my psp at the moment, and I just got about a hundred lines of code in for my game thanks to it! That was just total genious. Now we need something that will compile and test on the fly like that for C++. (Not gonna happen, realistically...)

Actually it can. A lot of coders have done so already by creating a cross platform framework to work on.

yeah, what language do you think luaplayerwindows was coded in?

Glyndder - I believe it uses OpenGL for rendering, as Lua Player for hte PSP uses the GU, and the two are similar in features (the GU is like OpenGL 1.0 feature wise). It was coded in C++ (look at source code of it)

but its been said to be difficult to code in java, and i have problems with lua...lol

Learn python. Similar to Lua but a lot more powerful, supports OO and widely used across a lot of platforms and generally cross platform.

There are 'frameworks' that you can work such as PyGame which uses SDL (perfect for 2D games) and PyOgre which is a 3D renderer library.

Yea theres a PSP Python interpreter, google it.

I have a suggestion. If you can, why not port it to the PSP? The PSP has Java now enabled, so why can't you port it to the PSP so that people can code on-the-go?

@Jon Frost- go for Python or Ruby to start, I have quite a bit of experience in both of them and like them both a lot, my personal preference would be ruby, as it is cleaner.
Ruby is also a bit like java meaning anywhere with the interpreter can run it and there is one for Linux, Mac and PC- I suppose if the source is out for it I could have a go at porting it (other things on my mind ATM- like LDK)
This is my bigest project in java, and I'll go through the benefits and disadvantges of it:
Benefits:
You can do a lot in Java, its really powerful
There are many ways everything can be done, each one allowing different other things to be done.
Its platform independant (I'm trying to find a way to get preview in Linux and Mac, with the right emu I *should* be able to)
its extendable
Its got a fantastic IDE (Eclipse)
Its an OO language
more...
Disadvantages:
It takes a lot of Java code to do something that it takes a very small amount of code to do in ruby or something
Its a pain to debug
Its generally annoying
You will often take the point of view that its the best language for everything (but its not)

The PSP thing as far as I know can only do command line Java- i'll look into it.

I am not 100% sure of this but I think that ATM it doesnt use openGL but it is being moved to it. there is a be5ta currently out which supports open GL and I *might* try and integrate that into the next release.

Damn, I want a portable LDK.....

Lol yeah that would be cool.
PSP Java is only really in its beginning days though and personally I'd be able to get things done a LOT quicker on a PC with an actual keyboard than on the PSP with any input method currently available.
But meh, thats just my opinion. Let's get the PC LDK right before we start to go mobile.

Sorry, no release date available yet.

Im about packaging it into a .exe now, so Windows noobs can use it too.

(The preview dont work on Linux/Mac yet anyway)

For some reason the BETA will not work for me or I just missed something. The ALPHA works fine though. But it is an alpha. :P

Good work on this. One suggestion; It would be cool if there was something like a list of what the code does. Would be cool if this explains the gu/3d codes.

Since I am a total noob at programming, I am more an artist(lame excuse), I hope that this LDK will help me learn. :)

.exe might help my problem, I reinstalled java but i still cant get it to run, I had it run before but not the betas.

bbox: Howver over each peice of code and a popup appears saying what it does.

Anti-QJ, and bbox- .exes are for the people that dont know enough about .jars etc... it also allows me to have my own process name (rather than javaw.exe) and icon etc...

The JAR file works fine on my computer, just lags to start off with whilst my Java 2 Runtime Environment starts itself up. Not that I'm complaining :)

yea i agree as well. but the jar file does seriously lag a bit...anyways, are you working on v3, because i am very very eager for you release the new version of this, for this is really really saving me time in coding lua. not only that, but it also helps me organize everything :). right now, i give this app a 4/5, but not 5/5 yet because i can see that this could still use some more work.

I hope everyone knos super doesnt organize his code at all, no indentation, little, if any, newlines to sepearte different types of variables and loops and whatnot. Im sorry, but your code is anything BUT organized... And this doesnt deserve a 4/5 (IMO) as it still has some major bugs and problems keeping me from using it over Dev-C++ and its Lua Syntax package. To name a few, using any of hte pre-written code from the drop down menus up top just place the code at the bottom of your sctipt, making them quite useless once you actually have more than 40 lines of code, where you must scroll down to cut nad paste it up top, another being a 'feature' that is annoying as hell as you must use more keystrokes to supply a function with its arguments, as the '(' is followed by a ')' immediatly after typing a '(', this would be good if it hadnt moved your cursor to the end of the pair... Those are my biggest reasons for not using this :( (mine = OPINIONS! My thoughts on the matter, in hopes Glyndder will fix them once time is found to do so).

I agreed with the whole thing, This does has some serious(and annoying) issues but its still a beta so it should be sorted out in later versions.

Ok, that was VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY hurtful............oh, the next time the see my code, i promise you that you are going to be satisfied...

super - Ive seen your code before... In g-pack v.2 you sent me your shell script you optimized after TP gave it to you. I think TP learned the advantages of indentation and seperation of different data types of variables and loops and whatnot, so Im guessing that you had un-indented it and whatnot to your liking...

But hey - if you can understand your code and dont get lost in your code without indentation and/or sepeartion, the more power to you. It wasnt meant to be hurtful, rather inform those who decided to give this a try because a dev with a different programming 'view' said it was awesome ;)

Hey - I like this alot, especially the preview window. Only problem is that there are some bugs/features that make Lua scripting harder than it really is. Work out most of hte bugs, and you got my vote Glynnder (sorry if spelling wrong)

Actually thats right, I've already killed the brakts thing, I *should* be able to sort out the insertation of the code by getting the current cursor lcation, and the adding "\nCODE\n" so its on its own line- easier said than done however
